One of the hardest things people can do when determining that it is time to lose weight is deciding on which diet program to use. With the wide array of plans out there, it takes careful consideration to find one that will work for the individual.

Something else that is hard is changing one’s relationship with food. That’s right; we all have a relationship with food. We either love it or we don’t. Of course, because it is essential for life, there are not many people who will tell you that they don’t like food. However, the relationship many people have with food has nothing to do with getting the nourishment required for energy.

Eating More Than We Need: A Modern Era Problem

Our bodies were designed to convert calories to energy, but some people consume far more calories than their bodies can possibly use in a day. The result is that the body stores those extra calories as fat for use at a later time when food sources are scarce. In a perfect world that time would come and fat stores would be used up. However, in the modern, developed world where there is a store on every corner and government programs to help those less fortunate, it is unlikely that most people will ever be met with the challenges of not being able to find enough to eat. In fact, in many instances quite the contrary is true.

These days, food choices abound. The bad news is that many times people choose to eat the wrong kinds of foods in proportions that are too large. Just spend some time observing what goes on in lines at buffet style and fast food restaurants and you will have a better idea about why the dimensions of waistlines continue to increase these days. Super sized orders and unlimited platefuls could be part of the problem.

Maybe the real problem is that people today are so busy that they don’t have time to prepare their own meals. Add to that the fact that most packaged convenience foods and those sold at restaurants are loaded with calories and we have a formula that encourages disastrous results. On top of that, those super sized portions many people feel are a real bargain have actually taught a lot of us to eat more than we should.

So, what can one do to solve the problems of overeating? Well, one way to retrain the brain and the stomach is to use eating plans such as Nutrisystem to help reintroduce the body to proper eating habits. While there have been some negative comments associated with the Nutrisystem program, there are many people, like Claire from Palmerton, Pennsylvania who have battled with their weight for a long time and speak highly of this system.

Claire’s Experience with Nutrisystem

After attending a wedding in 2009, Claire felt disgusted by the way she looked. You can read more about her experience at ConsumerAffairs, but we can suffice it to say that after beginning the Nutrisystem program in February, 2010, she was able to lose more than the amount of weight she intended in the first place. Claire is very satisfied that she learned how to better control her portions and about good carbs.

Anyone who is looking for a quality weight loss program should take a good look at Nutrisystem. has some special coupon offers that will help keep the cost down, although starting at $8/day the program is already pretty affordable to most people.

One of the main advantages of Nutrisystem is that you don’t have to worry about counting calories or cooking. The food is prepared for you. You still need to supply your own fruits, vegetables, and dairy, but the core of your caloric needs is provided. For many busy people (and moms), being able to lose weight through a proven system that saves them time from meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and dish washing, is a highly valued convenience. And we all want convenience! I know I need it.

  1. I have said that I need to retrain my eating habits

  2. The diet program industry is such big business and so unneccesary in my opinion. You hit the nail on the head, Krystle. Each the right foods, smaller portions and cut way down on fast food. Drink lots of water and get out of daily 20 minute walks and those pounds will start dropping! 🙂

  3. Nutri System and others like it is a great to reestablish good eating habits. It is so hard in this over sized food world and we need all the help we can get. 🙂

    • Yes, everything is super sized these days. We also just need to eat slower and we’d fill up so much quicker. My everyone just inhales their food.

  4. You said that one of the advantages is that you don’t have to cook since they prepare the food for you. I actually would find that as a disadvantage because of how much of a picky eater I am. That’s one of the many reasons why I never tried to go on a diet before.

    • I think my husband would have a problem with it too. He’s a pretty picky eater too and doesn’t like many things. I think the programs have to be versatile enough to consider the picky eaters too though.

  5. Susan Cooper says:

I am not a healthy an eater as i should be. It all get done to time. I will often grabs something quick when time is short but it usually isn’t’ the right choice. I have heard positive things about Nutrisystem. For me it is just a matter of discipline. 🙂

  6. I’ve never tried any diet programs, but the older I get, the harder it is to change some of my bad eating habits. Ugh, if only metabolism didn’t slow down as we age!

    • Yes, I wish our metabolisms didn’t slow down either. My comes to a hault though when I’m pregnant though. I can just look at food and gain weight.

  7. Being that it becomes more difficult to lose weight the older I get, I find that those last 10 pounds that seem to make their way back to me every other year, are best gone when I stick with more fruits and vegetables by the end of any one day. I did try Nutrisystem one year and while it was most convenient and easy, it left me hungry. I think each of us likely has one better way of eating to keep our weight where we want it. You are right: it’s all about eating habits. Thanks.

    • I agree not every program will work for every person. You just got to find what works best for you by trying different things.
