Several weeks and even months can go by before you realize, “I have not left the house, and pajamas are no longer exclusively nightwear.” Whether you long for a night out with friends or a romantic dinner date, breaking away from the home, work and motherhood should be a priority. Yes, schedule in a GNO (that’s a girls night out) or date night. The rules? No kids, work emails, or yoga pants allowed. These style tips can help you camouflage work stress and parenting exhaustion with minimal effort, while you look stylish and feel sexy.
Statement Necklace: GNO
For the busy working mom-on-the-go, a girl’s night out (planned weeks in advance) can sneak up quickly in the datebook. A chunky statement necklace dresses up any “mom uniform” for a last-minute look.
Build up an emergency necklace collection, starting with a few transformational pieces from Baublebar. Diversify your collection with layering necklaces, Y-neck chains, and studded collars.
As you send that last email or rush home from soccer practice, accent your vintage tee or flannel with a necklace for instant evening glam.
Flaming Lips: Haute Happy Hour
Make it hot for your hubby and unleash your feisty inner side with flaming lips. Burt’s Bees lip balms and nude gloss moisturize lips during the daytime, but bold lips easily make a statement during happy hour.
Following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift and Gwen Stefani, apply a fire engine red hue or a coral shade for a pop of color. If you’re a risk-taking beauty, brighten your face with an orange tint and peachy cheeks to complement the look.
Create a subtle cat-eye with black liner, and you’ve instantly transitioned from working mom into a sassy party girl.
Sultry Sweats: Netflix and Chill
Sometimes a relaxing night without the kiddos and tablet is more desirable than leaving the house for dinner and drinks. But a date night in with a movie doesn’t mean you can’t add romance to the evening with lingerie and loungewear.
Undo the ponytail and curl a few sections of your hair for some casual, tousled waves. Then, take off that smartwatch for women, slip on some lacy lingerie or a crimson red bra to wear underneath an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt paired with flirty boy short underwear.
Just because you’re hitting the couch instead of the bar doesn’t mean you can’t get comfy and give off a sexy allure.
Denim and Heels: Ladies Wine Night
Haven’t lost that extra pregnancy weight yet? Does your favorite little black dress still hang in the back of your closet? That’s OK! You can easily dress up those comfy baggy boyfriend jeans or worn-in distressed chambray with a pair of killer heels.
Slip-on a pair of strappy metallic heels with ripped denim to create an edgy, yet sophisticated look. Pairing suede pumps with minimally torn jeans and a blazer jacket over a low-cut tee pulls together a high-fashion outfit.
Even chunky heels or wedge sandals can dress up a casual style for a night of vino with the gals.
Intimates Gone Public: Style Tips
Thanks to the trend of “bra baring,” you no longer have to shield your bra straps or restrict yourself to nude bras. For the modern fashionista, your bra can make an appearance while out on the town as a sexy accessory to be seen.
Instead of hiding your bra, show it off stylishly and tastefully. Throw on a sheer lacy top over a neutral-colored bra to subtly show some skin. The little lacy bra is also a wardrobe hit, describes Who What Wear.
Let lace peek through the V-neck of a T-shirt or unbutton one more button of your blouse for a smidgen of exposure. Now you’re ready for a Friday night debut.
What style tips have worked for you?
You have some good ideas. I have one the bra trick. But lately is is all about lounge clothes for me!
I feel you! I’m all about athleisure these days
Wearing lipstick instantly makes me feel glam which I must prefer to sexy.
I rnjoy making an effort in my clothes, hair and make-up
I know what you mean. I don’t really feel sexy but glammed up I do a lot. Well, most of the time if I am going out of the house.
Hi Krystle, well I’m not sure about flaming red lips on me anymore, but it is amazing how a little lipstick or gloss can make you feel and look prettier. 🙂
I agree, Susan. I feel like I look weird in bright red. Mines more of a deeper type of red. But either way I always like something on my lips 🙂
Time for yourself is tremendously important and a night out even more so if you work from home. I’m a little old for some of your suggestions – but like them anyway. I don’t do night out anymore but I always felt the dressing up – putting on the makeup and dress-up clothes always set the mood and increased the anticipation for the night out.
Time for yourself is tremendously important no matter if you stay in or go out. You can have just as much fun staying home!
That all sounds pretty good. I would just be concerned that my wife would kill herself in killer heels.
Haha. That would be me. I would kill myself in high heels. I’m such a clutz.
I totally agree. I work from the majority of the time. My goal this year is to get out more. Whether it is just for a walk, date night with my hubby, or meeting up with my girl friends, it really doesn’t matter. And, yes, I get dressed up for the occasion. =) Thanks for sharing. This is quite inspiring.
I know what you mean. I need to get out more for fun. I usually get out for kids sports or doctor appts but not much for fun.
