Handmade items are very popular with many generations of people. Craft fairs are a great way to get out there and see all the wonderful skills others have to offer. As a vendor many ask are craft fairs still worth it to vendors who have never been in them. There is no right or wrong answer to that question.
There are many wonderful reasons to pursue a craft fair show for your items. You can choose to do one or two shows and call it quits or make it a huge part of what you do during the month. Some decide to do scheduled shows once a month and some love the atmosphere and do it as much as possible. By having the right mindset and a plan in place, you can make the shows very profitable for you and your business. Check out these five reasons to give craft shows a try.
First you will open the door to a variety of new clientele. You can meet new people and hopefully gain repeat customers. You can showcase your skills and items so they understand your work and know where to find you. This expands your reach from what it previously was. You will learn new areas to sell in and meet prospective customers.
Second you can increase your sales potential. If you are meeting new people you've never been in contact with it increase the chances of your sales going up. This is a great thing to have when you are starting out a new business. Craft fairs are a great place to jump start your business and get those increased sales numbers.
Third you can get the word out about your new business. If this is something you are focusing your time and effort on you need to advertise. By being in a craft fair you can give out business cards and tell others about what you do. This is a great place to advertise yourself and your business to the public. It's also a great place to find others in your industry.
Fourth, with all those new contacts you will be making you can start up your email list. Try having customers or those interested in your booth sign up to get on your contact list. You can send out information on new events, sales you will be having or new designs you will be coming out with. Its also a great way to keep in contact with your customers over long periods of time. They can keep up with the changes you are making and also have it in their mind when they go to buy a gift.
Finally you can test out your new designs at craft shows. Take a look at what sells best and what items many people are after. Craft shows get you out in the public and let you see what they want. You can showcase new elements to your work that you may be considering. If they go over well it will help you to decide if you want to make that a permanent addition to your work. If they do not you know it's something to scratch. These shows can help you in many different ways in running your business.
Take a look at these few reasons why craft fairs are still a great way for vendors to get their products out there. This will help you to keep you brand, name and logo out there with your customers. Enjoy the craft fairs and see how far they can take your business.

I’m thinking of doing a craft fair/vendor event at the beginning of the new year. You’ve provided some awesome suggestions. I REALLY like the idea of having a form for email subscriptions. I’ll have to bookmark this page for later.
Thanks Angela! I hope your craft fair experience is a good one 🙂
We have a craft fair at church every year at the beginning of December. Some of the talented people in the church make things and they also have vendors come in to display & sell their handmade items. We love to go Christmas shopping at that…. you can find unique presents that you can’t find elsewhere.
I bet that is a ball to shop at. I love visiting craft fairs and seeing what people come up with.
you have pointed out some great things!! we love craft fairs i love seeing things and getting inspired for new DIY’s and what not!
I think craft fairs are fun to look at too! They are very inspiring 🙂
I have no skills or talents. Not crafty at all, although I wish I were. I do love craft fairs though.
I’m sure you have plenty of skills and talents 🙂
I just recently started an online jewelry company so this was definitely interesting to me! We are having our first “trunk” show and I think in order to see what everyone likes the most we will take pictures of everyone with the jewelry piece they buy, and put it on our page 🙂 So then to get the pic of themselves they have to go “like” our Facebook page. What do you think?
I think that is a really good idea! And it will give you alot of likes too 🙂
You know, I never thought of craft fairs in that way but it make total since. I have found a good many people at craft fairs I have done business with and I have used them many times. I have also refereed these vendors to others who needed their products or services. 🙂
It is good for networking if you are the crafty type. I love just going to them to look around. They are so fun!
