5 Reasons You Should Try A Telehealth Service

Life isn’t an easy task, but you knew that already. There are always new challenges being thrown at us, and nothing slows us down from completing those challenges quite like unexpected illnesses. Just when you need things to be calm the most, an unexpected fever or sore throat can really throw a wrench in your plans.

If you are parenting young children, it can become a perpetual cycle of them having a cold or runny nose. For low-level issues like a sore throat runny nose or cough, we often know what is needed to treat the child medically, but we still need a doctor to ask the right questions and ensure that we aren’t missing the signs or symptoms of something more serious. Yet trying to schedule with a doctor is not always convenient for our schedule.

Sometimes a fever pops up in the middle of the night or on a weekend when a provider is not available. Sometimes we can’t get there because of transportation issues. In those moments when we need access to care that can jump over all of these barriers, telemedicine provides a handy solution.

What is telehealth?

It is a way for you to see the doctor from the convenience of your own home. Through these services, you can ask questions directly to your doctor or even “see” the doctor through video conferencing for an appointment.

It is a whole new world for taking care of our physical and mental health. Through the power of the internet, we can take the big hassle out of little medical issues. Are you curious about telehealth? Here are 5 reasons why you might want to give it a try.

Easy solution for simple health issues

Certain conditions require a doctor’s touch, even if you already know what the problem is. For instance, if you have ever had a sinus infection, you know what a sinus infection is like. You can describe those symptoms to your doctor, get your medication, and move on.

But the drive to the doctor, the inconvenient scheduling, and the wait in the waiting room are a lot to ask of someone who already feels lousy. Telehealth allows you to skip the line and rest until it is time to meet the doctor.

Convenient follow up and advice

5 Reasons You Should Try A Telehealth Service

A follow-up is rarely longer than 5-10 minutes with the doctor.

If you have ever had to leave home or work to take an hour or more for a 5-10 minute appointment, you know very well how annoying it can be. Doing a follow-up appointment via telehealth is so much easier.

Telehealth is great for simple med checks

People with chronic conditions take the same medications for extended periods of time. Those extended periods of time often call for monitoring of their symptoms and any side effects that their medications could cause. Because of that, a person might follow up with their doctor as often as monthly depending on what the medications are.

Just like a regular follow-up, these are brief appointments that can consume a great deal of unnecessary time when the doctor could instead meet up with you for a few minutes in a video conference, confirm your wellness, and let you enjoy your day.

Bad weather isn’t a barrier

Being ill is already no fun, but illness during severe weather is more than an inconvenience, it can actually be dangerous for us. The option to see a doctor via telehealth can keep us safe in our homes when inclement weather makes it too dangerous for us to travel.

Flexible schedules for odd times of day

Illness isn’t particular about what time it strikes. If you or one of your children becomes sick over a weekend, it is likely that you won’t be able to get a doctor’s appointment until the next week begins.

With telehealth, many doctors are available during the night and weekend hours when regular doctors are not accessible. That flexibility allows you greater access to medical care, regardless of the time.

Another alternative would be to google “urgent care near me” and see what pops up as these locations often have extended hours and doctors on-call.

5 Reasons You Should Try A Telehealth Service

If you have never tried telehealth, you will be surprised at the convenience it provides to you. When you aren’t having to spend unnecessary time on appointments, go out in inclement weather or wait until the week to solve a health issue that began on the weekend, you’ll see the difference. Using telehealth is one of those modern innovations that just makes sense.

Have you ever had an urgent care telehealth appointment?

I’ve used Telehealth before in Ontario, Canada and it is such a great supplemental service to standard healthcare like the hospital or a GP’s office. They are very informative and can direct you about what to do if you are experiencing any symptoms or medication side effects and they can assess how serious it is. It’s a great free service that more people should take advantage of.

I would definitely consider a telehealth service if they took my insurance. I have some complex health issues that require frequent procedures but for general, minor problems I would be glad to “visit” my G.P. from home. Saves time, & best of all, no exposure to germs , & illness. To someone like me who has compromised immunity that means a lot.
