Working from home makes it much easier to have a constant presence in your child’s life, but it also usually means having a tight budget. Fortunately, there are several ways that you can maximize the amount of money that you have, and this means that you can still treat yourself occasionally. After all, even though you might not have the money to go to an expensive hair salon every few weeks, there are lots of other ways that you can feel like your budget is larger than it actually is.

Tips for Treating Yourself on a Budget

Buy Jewelry Online

One of the best things about shopping online is that you can find almost anything at a discounted price, and jewelry is no exception to this rule. In fact, online jewelers tend to have a much wider selection, and they also offer pricing that will beat every local brick and mortar jewelry store. Therefore, if your idea of treating yourself is to get a new pair of earrings, you should definitely turn to the Internet to stay within your budget.

Visit Designer ReSell Shops

Although some people turn their noses up at the idea of going to a thrift store, there are several high-class secondhand shops in affluent areas. These shops have prices that are higher than most of the new items in a basic store, but you will be able to get designer items at a significant discount. This will enable you to purchase items that are typically far outside of your price range without giving up your sense of fashion.

Open a Special Savings Account

Even if your weekly budget only provides you with an extra $10, you can turn that small amount into a lot by transferring it into a separate savings account. In other words, if you have always wanted to dine at the most expensive restaurant in town or get pampered at a day spa, you can put aside money every week until your dream becomes a reality. You should also keep your eyes open for any special discount offers that will help you maximize the total amount of money that you have available. Even if you are only able to do something special every few months, you will always have something special to look forward to.

Use Discount Websites

As previously mentioned, looking for coupons and other discount offers is a great way to make your money go further. There are several websites that offer large discounts on everything from event tickets to hotel rooms, and you can use this to your advantage. After all, if your favorite restaurant offers a special deal that lets you get $50 worth of food for only $25, you might even have enough left over to splurge on something else.

Go out During the Week

Almost every form of entertainment is more expensive on the weekends, and even some restaurants increase their prices on Friday and Saturday night. Therefore, if you are planning to get out of the house for a kid-free movie date, you should try to schedule it on a week day. This can drastically reduce the cost of your tickets, and that will make it much easier to fit in movie dates on a semi-regular basis.

Taking the time to treat yourself is the perfect way to ensure you love the decision to work from home. After all, everyone likes to have nice things and get out of the house sometimes. Even though you might not be able to fit extravagant items into your budget, you can still enjoy fine jewelry and dining with some careful planning.

Those are some great tips! One thing my daughter and I do is have a massage at the local massage school. They have 4 days a year where they get to practice the techniques they have learned and you can get an hour massage for $20….. I just wish they had them more often!

That’s a good idea! Beauty schools are also a good place to get things done for cheap. My husband would love a $20 massage! He’s always saying he wants one.
