A themed party can be great fun, no matter what the occasion. Rather than celebrating like everyone else, holding a themed night allows you to put your own personal spin on things, while tapping into the interests of your guests. If you’ve never held a theme night before, you might be worried about how to organize it so your guests have fun. The five ideas listed here will help you prepare for your party without tiring yourself out so you can have as much fun as your guests.
Five Organizational Tips for Themed Parties
- Know Your Guests. Not all theme ideas will work for everyone. Plan for success by taking your guests into consideration as you consider theme ideas. It might be a little more difficult to come up with an idea for guests of various ages and backgrounds, but it’s still possible. A theme that works for everyone will add cohesiveness to your party and make everyone feel included.
- Select a Theme. There are so many ways to choose a theme for your party. Consider factors such as season or holiday, sports activities, or ideas that relate to places around the world, different eras or celebrities. Don’t over think things too much; chances are that if it sounds fun to you, your guests will feel the same.
- Determine the Dress Code. Dressing up can be a lot of fun for guests. If the theme you’ve chosen lends itself well to fancy dress or costumes, include the dress code in the theme. Guests can easily find costumes at online shops such as www.props-n-frocks.co.uk or in party stores or secondhand shops.
- Organize Party Supplies. Prior to the party, you’ll want to gather appropriate party supplies. Avoid forgetting anything important by making a list of what you need. If possible, use supplies that go along with your theme. For instance, if you have a beach party theme, use checkered tablecloths to add to the picnic atmosphere. Standbys like balloons and tissue paper streamers also add to the décor.
- Send Out Invitations. Even if you’re telling your guests about the party, be sure to send invitations. A paper invitation adds class and shows your guests they’re worth your time. Use space in your invitation to explain the theme to your guests, and provide instructions regarding costumes and anything else they need to bring. Always ask guests to RSVP whether they’re coming or not so you have an idea of how many people to expect.
Plan Ahead and Enjoy the Night
By approaching your theme night with organization and good planning, you’ll be able to spend the evening enjoying your guests instead of running around. Don’t stress out if everything doesn’t turn out exactly as you’d hoped. Sometimes, what we view as mistakes turns out to be a lot of fun for the guests. As long as you maintain an attitude of fun, your theme night will be a great time for you, your friends and family members.

I always find myself running around parties especially my kid’s birthday parties. Ugh. I’m organized but there is always something to do.
