pergola

Pergolas are an outdoor structure, usually put in a garden or the backyard, that creates a sitting area or a shaded pathway. Just imagine owning one in the summer and having family barbeques or cozying up in the winter with a firepit. Here are some great reasons to add a pergola to your home.

If you have already installed a deck or patio, you likely added it to extend your living space. You can do the same thing with a pergola. See how!Click To Tweet

Home Expansion

A big reason for you to get a pergola is that it will expand and extend your living space. It can act as an additional living area, another dining area, or an entertainment area.

You can add tables or chairs, where you can hang out and relax. It will add definition to your backyard or garden.

The pergola can keep you shaded from the sun or the rain, but will still allow the breeze to come through. Aside from that, if you add more furniture, it can create the illusion that your home is larger than it is.

With a pergola, you can entertain guests outside, no matter what the weather!

Additional sunlight

Having a bit more sun never hurt anyone. A healthy dose of vitamin D is always a good thing.

It helps regulate calcium and phosphate and helps us have healthier bones, muscles, and teeth. Vitamin D helps us avoid getting sick with myopathy, muscle weakness and pain, and rickets in children.

Having a pergola and hanging out under it will help with all that.

Affordable

Pergolas aren’t very expensive. Though, it does depend on the material they are made of.

You may get it in materials like cedar, vinyl, or metal. It all depends on your budget and the kind of look that you’re going for.

Pergolas also can be installed by yourself. It doesn’t have to be installed by a professional. There are pergola kits on the market, and with the right tools, you can build and install it yourself.

Feel like you’re on a vacation

How would you like to have a mini-vacation in your own home? Having a pergola in your home can make you feel like you’re on one.

Put up and decorated appropriately; it can give off the impression that you’re away from home in a faraway place for relaxation.

Get some privacy

A pergola with a screen or latticework or some drapes provides some privacy. It keeps people from nosing around while you relax.

It also adds to the idea that you’re on vacation, as well.

Having a pergola at home has a bonus of not having a crowd around messing up your relaxation time.

Easy maintenance

Pergolas are rather easy to take care of. They’re sturdy, so they would just need some sweeping underneath and maybe some light dusting.

Maintaining them by staining or painting them, depending on the pergola’s material, will make them last for around 10 to 12 years.

More plant space

With a pergola, you can have more space for your plants. Or, if you’re thinking of becoming more of a plant person, having a pergola is the perfect opportunity for it.

You can hang plants from the ceilings or the boards, creating an illusion of a floating garden.

Some plant suggestions are grapevines, ivy, wisteria, clematis, and honeysuckle. Growing from the ground and upwards, all of these are beautiful when intertwined with the boards.

More beautiful home

Pergolas create a certain aesthetic and beauty to your backyard or garden. It’ll be almost like you’re living by the sea.

They’re pleasing to the eye, especially when you start having those plants. You can even add some linen drapes, fabric sails, or a canopy to it.

If you’re not much of a plant person, you can use branches, straw, or bamboo and tie the dropbacks with string or twine.

Can be combined with other home structures

A pergola is not only something that you add to your backyard or garden, but it can also be something that you add to an existing structure, like a gazebo or a veranda.

It’s lovely by itself, but it also works beautifully when combined with other home structures.

Additional home value

Adding a permanent structure to your home adds value to it. Seeing as outdoor living has been increasingly more popular in recent years, it’s been said that a pergola can increase your ROI from between 50% – 80% when you put your home in the market.

There can only be good things that come from a pergola. It adds beauty and appeal to your home and gives you shade. It can be a place of entertainment and relaxation.

No matter what, having a pergola in your backyard is something that you will surely love. Contact experts to assist you in designing the perfect pergola for your home sweet home. Happy relaxing!
