How To Add Style To Your House

Start Decluttering Your Home

There’s nothing that clutters up your mind quite like your home being full of clutter. When your surfaces are full of random items and possessions that your family members have left there, it can start to feel a little unpleasant and overwhelming.

Go around in each room with three bags – one for items that should be kept and put away, one for items to be donated, and another for items to be trashed. Of course, once you’re done cleaning, the clutter will come back – put a clutter-box in each room that can be sorted at the end of each week.

Add Splashes Of Colour

A lot of people go for neutral palettes, which are a great idea in some ways and terrible in others. Neutral palettes can be terrible because they can be dull – which is, of course, a cardinal sin. But they’re also a great idea because they enable you to switch up the room quickly and easily, and with minimal expense.

If your living room has pale gray walls (after all, pale gray is the new magnolia!) then you can add essentially whatever other colors you want to the space and still end up with something you can afford to completely change again in a few months. The best thing about neutrals is their versatility!

Invest In Furniture

One of the best things to invest in is good quality furniture. Hopefully, you’ll be passing it down to your kids one day so it’s a good idea to go for classic designs made from quality materials. Heavy wood is always preferable to wood and plastic mixes, and you should do your best to go for recyclable and sustainable materials where you can as well.

If you’re curious, you can look online for ideas or check out all the boards that people have made on interior design on Pinterest to get a little inspiration.

Go For Comfort

Important question: what’s the point of having a house if you don’t feel comfortable in it? The whole purpose of your home is that it’s somewhere you can relax after a long day at work – so it makes sense that you should try to make it as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Invest heavily in furniture like couches, along with your bedsheets and your TV if you enjoy watching TV shows and movies to relax. If you love to read then get a comfortable armchair complete with a light that’s the perfect height and brightness. Make sure your home’s comfortable for you and what you like to spend your time doing there.

Add Personal Touches

Finally, you need to make sure that you have full confidence in your personal style and taste. A lot of us tend to second guess ourselves but push all those doubts to one side and sail on full steam ahead!

If you really love a photograph or piece of art then trust your instincts and put it in your home. Anything that makes you smile when you see it is the perfect thing to have around.
