Baby bug broke his arm this weekend playing Mario with his brother. He was sitting on the edge of the top bunk, died in the game, and fell six feet in real life. Poor thing.
We're always telling him to sit up there correctly but apparently it hadn't sunk in yet. He fractured his humorous completely through but it's a place where a cast isn't needed.
It has been hard to tell a 4 year old not to move his arm that's only in a sling and then there's the sleeping issue. I wish a cast could of been placed. I would of had more peace of mind.
Due to his arm being broken, his dominant arm, and it being the week before Christmas break we've decided to let him stay home from preschool. Luckily, I had the Animal Trackers Club subscription box to keep him busy and get some learning in.
Animal Trackers Club is a monthly subscription box for kids. It is made by the same people who brought you Space Scouts for children 6+. Animal Trackers Club is geared for younger children (3+) that are pre-readers or early readers.
The guide for Animal Trackers Club is Bode Bear. He takes your children on an adventure in the African Savanna where he introduces the amazing animals that live there. Each month your child will “track” a new animal learning about them and their habitats.
The first month you will receive the tools needed to be a great animal tracker:
- Animal Trackers Club Safari Lunchbox (where you can store everything)
- African Savanna Information Card
- Cover and Ring for the Safari Animal Photo Collection (a collection of the animals you have tracked)
- Savanna Art Project
- Savanna Animal Cards Activity
The savanna art project we did was creating own very own picture with foam animals and on savanna landscapes. My son loved this. Where else can a giraffe ride on a zebra or an elephant climb a tree!? He had great fun using his imagination and coming up with stories for the animals.
We also played a savanna animal match game. He thought is was funny you had to match their faces to their “butts”. Baby bug is a booty boy. He's always saying something about them and likes to say “booo-tay”. He's a funny little man.
Each additional month after the first one your child will receive:
- Animal Information Card
- Animal Play Figure
- Animal Foam Mask
- Animal Magnet
- Safari Animal Photo Card
- Learning Activity
- Art Project
Our next month focused on the zebra. We read about the zebra and learned some facts like the zebra pretty much eats ALL the time because its stomach has a hard time processing grass. And did some learning activities.
I love that there was a math AND reading focused activity. For the math activity Baby bug got to draw stripes on zebras by identifying a number and then drawing the correct number of stripes. I had to read him the numbers that were spelled out (he's not there on reading yet) and then he knew how to draw them. It was a bit difficult for him to write being the one armed (left handed) bandit though but he got through.
The reading activity was matching upper and lower case letters as well as matching sounds to words. This was probably his least favorite part. I got the eye roll. He's not really into learning the basics yet but it's so important. He much rather learn about the animals. As a mom I thought it was great!
We also did a zebra craft with magic nuudles. They are these Styrofoam type pellets that stick when wetted. It's pretty neat! We got to create zebra stripes with them. You can even count the pellets as you go to get some more learning in.
Baby bug also loved the zebra magnet and the zebra mask. And I quote “Awesome!”.
