Asher And Watson Set Sail: A Pirate's Book is a cute, imaginative paperback book ($8.99) for children. It's about Asher and his dog Watson. The story begins with Asher receiving one of the best birthday presents he has ever had, a toy pirate ship. While taking a bubble bath Asher's dog Watson accidentally dumps in a whole bottle of bubbles! The whole tub fills with bubbles and the adventure begins. Asher's vivid imagination transports us to a time of pirates where Asher is the captain and Watson is his first mate. They trudge threw a storm to make it to Hog's Head Island where there's of course treasure and foes defending it. At the end of the day Asher and Watson defeat a caterpillar as large a school bus and the evil pirate Captain Zephyr. They find the treasure and make it back to Asher's bathtub just in time for his mom's yummy lasagna dinner.
I read this story to my two boys. They loved it! After all they do the exact same thing Asher does, imagine. Especially my youngest son. He has a HUGE imagination which I think is great. He has a nice balance between pretend playing and being creative versus all the technology kids love. His brother on the other hand doesn't really pretend play much any more but at least his other sports and activities keep him from being glued to a screen.
I want my kids to use their imagination and create. With so much technology it can be a struggle just to get them to play with their toys and pretend without them worrying when they can play a tablet or video game next. I love when they use their minds to be creative. It opens up a whole new world that even the best video game can't compare to. You can do anything with your mind if you are just willing to imagine it as Asher reminds us of.
I would recommend Asher And Watson Set Sail: A Pirate's Book to parents of young children, especially boys. Jake and the Neverland Pirate fans would totally be hooked on this too I think! It's also a great children's book for early readers to practice their reading skills. None of the words are too overly complicated that they can't be sounded out which is perfect. Check out this super cute book on Amazon. It's available for the Kindle and paperback.
I love the vibrant photos that bring this story to life. Imagination is so important for children
Imagination is a gift, isn’t it 🙂
