Preparing a checklist of things you want for the baby can help narrow things down. However, before buying, check available baby gear reviews to get an idea of what works and what does not.
Here are the top baby gear items your new little one will need.
Crib and mattress
Make sure the crib you choose is sturdy and does not come with adjustable side rails. Also, make sure the side slates are not more than 2 3/8inches to avoid the baby from getting trapped.
The mattress should be firm, have no gaps between the crib and its edges, and measure roughly 28 inches by 52 ⅜ inches.
You can also purchase bassinets and co-sleepers if you need something smaller or prefer something that is more portable.
Changing table
Any changing table you purchase should be sturdy and durable, and will most likely will be atop a chest of drawers or have an open cubby area. Never purchase a changing table that can fold as these are known to collapse.
Use safety straps to attach the changing table to the wall, which will keep the kid safe when they start pulling up on things.
Car seat
As per the law, your baby needs a car seat. It should be designed according to the age, height, and weight of the baby.
The best car seats that you can buy for infants are rear-facing. Most experts say you should keep your child rear-facing until they are two years old.
It often comes in handy to have a convertible car seat that can adjust with your child's age.
Strollers
Strollers make it easier for you to take your baby out and about and are available in a wide range of styles.
The jogger stroller is perfect for the parents who run and want to take their kiddos along. It has a broad base and is safe to carry older kids, and comes with many pockets where you can keep stuff.
The umbrella stroller will protect your toddler from the sun, rain, and other weather conditions. It is lightweight and best for preschoolers.
But, what you want is a stroller travel system where you can easily snap in their car seat.
Bathtub
The baby tub you purchase should be made of plastic, be durable, and be at the correct angle so the baby can sit when needed.
It should also feature some type of anti-slip bottom so it won't slide all over the place.
Baby carrier
A baby carrier will allow you to be hands-free and keep your baby close. It comes in super handy when going to the supermarket or any store.
Also, make sure the carrier you choose gives ample head support for your new bundle of joy.
Comfy chair
Babies find rocking soothing and having a comfy chair to feed them in comes in handy with night feedings. Then when they get older it can be a place where you bond and read to them.
Diaper bag
When you go anywhere with a baby, you have to carry all the essential items such as bottles, diapers, clothes, and so on. You have to pack practically everything making a diaper bag indispensable.
