Over the years, my husband and I have gone through various phases of trying to improve our lifestyle. This usually consists of us making a bet on who can lose the most weight the fastest. It typically ends with me winning (Yay!) or us totally forgetting about it because it's taking way too long to see results.
Either way, it ultimately is an epic fail. “Why?”, you ask. In the end, we never end up with the results we truly want. It's just a quick fix that has no real long-term sticking power. We don't learn how food affects our mood or what foods make us fuller for longer. Just imagine what you could do with knowing this information. It would help you stick your health goals, wouldn't it? It would me! That's why…
I'm happy to announce my participation in The Beef Checkoff 30 Day Protein Challenge!
Pre-Protein Challenge Me
I am a 33-year-old female that eats healthy for the most part. I like a lot of foods but don't always eat them in the right proportions. For most of my adult life, I have always weighed within a 5-7 pound range of my ideal weight yet I still have moments of feeling fat. I blame this on childbirth and the extra body fat it gives you. That mommy pouch is here to stay it would seem AND I hate it!
I am not a morning person by any means, either. I don't pop out of bed singing like some fairytale princess. I force myself to get up and out and would still consider myself not awake even 5 hours later. I believe this has a lot to do with me being a breakfast skipper. I've never really given in to “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” concept but I do see how it affects me. I'm just not hungry right after waking up.
Not only am I a breakfast skipper, I really only eat one “real” meal a day during the week and snack the rest of the time. Whereas on the weekends, I tend to snack even more and throw in some cocktails as well. As you can see I need some help in the meal planning department!
Why Protein?
Protein puts the wheel in your hands and gives you the control you need to take on the day. Avoiding that “I'm STARVING!!” feeling encourages you to make the right food choices, not just at that particular meal but all day long!
Did you know most Americans consume almost all (about two-thirds) of their daily protein at dinner? Not a big shock, right? But some research has shown it may be beneficial to spread out your protein intake over the course of the day rather than just having it all at one meal. It can help with weight loss, building/protecting your muscles (for you exercise freaks), and energy levels (now that's what I'm talking about!).
Preparing for the 30 Day Protein Challenge
From September 24 through October 24 I have committed to taking the 30 Day Protein Challenge. As I am in the first week right now I've been tracking the protein in my food, my hunger levels, and corresponding moods. So far I have noticed, that my eating schedule is really out of whack but most of my foods do contain protein.
I can't wait till next week when I'm going to make Beef and Egg Breakfast Mugs. It's a recipe from Beef It's What's For Dinner. It totally sounds fun! I can't wait to buy some cute mugs for it!!
My Protein Challenge Goals
I hope by doing the protein challenge I will see an improvement in my energy levels and maybe even a little weight loss. My ultimate goal is to get on a better eating schedule and I think this challenge will get me on the right path. Plus I'd love to reap all the benefits of eating a balanced amount of protein.

What an amazing and super healthy recipe. I would love to try this for the weekend. Thank you for sharing
It is a little longer than a couple of days but to start small, the weekend would be awesome!
That sounds like a great challenge. Protein is such an important part of our diet.
It truly is! You don’t realize HOW important until you start keeping track.
This is something I had not heard of before. It sounds very interesting! I will be curious to read how it turns out!
It was new for me as well! You would love it, I assure you. It’s an eye-opener. Feel free to ask questions!
I’ve been trying really hard to have our family eat healthier this year. After talking to my dietician friend, she’s been encouraging me to up my protein.
This sounds like a great challenge for you then. You should try it!
I need to look into this. I have been starting to have more of a snacky lunch instead of having a substantial lunch and maybe that is slowing down my weightloss goals. I need to add more protein.
I have a problem of being too snacky too. I’m trying to change that as we speak 🙂
This 30-day protein challenge is very nice. I love this, I should try it too.
Yes, you totally should! It’s so worth it. Here are the results! https://www.homejobsbymom.com/protein-challenge-recap/
I definitely need more protein in my diet. This challenge would be perfect for me.
If you’re wanting to try it out, feel free to ask any questions you have! We will try to answer them as best we can!
This is a great challenge because your body needs lots of protein. After I had my appendix removed, the doctor told me that protein helps your body to heal itself.
That’s true. Protein has so many benefits that we all could use 🙂
I’ve never done anything like this before but it does sound great and perfect for people who are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle! Thanks for providing details as well, it’s good to learn about these things!
I hadn’t ever done anything like this either. It’s rewarding! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
I have a mommy pouch that is here to stay too. And it sucks because before kids I had a nice, flat tummy. I always try to eat protein rich foods when I need a snack. Special K makes a bar that is packed with protein that really holds me over until my next meal (or is sometimes my breakfast depending on the morning).
I need to try those bars. I’m always afraid they will taste bad and then I’m stuck with them.
I’m really intrigued by this challenge! Can’t wait to hear what you learn in the process.

I can always use more protein in my diet. I’m looking forward to following along! I need to cook with more red meat.
I needed a lot more in mine as well and didn’t realize until I tried this challenge!
This sounds like a great idea! May have to join in!
It truly was an eye-opener! It was hard to track at first but you get into a habit. Here are the results here! https://www.homejobsbymom.com/protein-challenge-recap/
Good luck with it! I’m sure you’ll do great.
It was hard at first but worth it! Here are my results if you’re interested! https://www.homejobsbymom.com/protein-challenge-recap/
I track all of my macros through the My Plate app – it really helps keep me in check and to see just how much protein I am getting in. I try for 80/20/20 (80 protein 20 fats 20 carbs) though I don’t always hit the mark. Hope you find this helps you – I know taking a look at what I am eating and recording it has changed my attitude and eating habits for the better!
Sounds like an app I NEED to have!
I have not been eating meat for a while now, but I’m substituting my protein for the healthy ones. This looks like a great challenge.
It truly was an amazing challenge. Check out the results of the challenge here! https://www.homejobsbymom.com/protein-challenge-recap/
