My boys love sweets. I know it's a big shock, right? As a mother, I am always trying to make sure they eat somewhat of a balanced diet despite their picky tastes. They aren't allowed to have dessert until they've eaten a good portion or all of their dinner including a healthy item.
Even when I do give them dessert I try to portion the quantity. There's no reason they need a HUGE piece of cake or a thousand cookies. A few will do. This got me thinking. Could they tell if a dessert was lower calorie than usual? I decided to do the soda swap.
For the soda swap, you sub 12 ounces of soda for the eggs, oil, and water cake mixes call for. That's right, you just mix a box of cake mix with a can of soda and it's ready to be baked. It's an easy go to when you are out of eggs and oil. I used a diet brown soda so I got rid of all the oil and egg calories that would have normally been in the recipe. Mom win!
One of my favorite and easiest desserts to pick up is NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® refrigerated cookie dough. What's easier than plopping the ready to go cookie dough squares in the oven? Almost nothing, if you want a homemade taste. That's why I knew I had to try their NEW baking mixes too. With NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® having over 75 years of baking experience I knew these highly versatile baking mixes was just the thing I needed to do my soda swap test.
To get started, I headed to my local Walmart and bought NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More with Butterfingers mix, diet soda, and some Butterfinger bites. I had all of the other ingredients on hand. And when I say ALL. I mean the other two. This recipe is super simple to make having only 5 ingredients total!
I love how NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® helps me make fun recipes with a twist. The soda swap created a fudge like center that is smooth rather than cake or brownie like while the outer crust is almost exactly like a brownie. It's a fun texture combination for your mouth!
With a tweak here and an add in there NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® makes everyone feel like they are a top chef. I love that!
Guess what? Seems as though my kids will eat anything thing that contains chocolate and peanut butter. Go figure! Healthier swaps will most definitely be in their future!! Be sure to check out NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® on Pinterest to get more great recipe ideas!

What kid doesn’t love sweets, right? I think it’s pretty much a given and there’s really no choice but try to look for healthier desserts! It’s awesome that you found the perfect solution. The butterfinger bundt cake sounds amazing and it’s definitely worth a try.
Butterfinger is a favorite second only to M&Ms. I didn’t know these varieties were available.
Every year, my mother still makes me a birthday cake even though I’m a mother myself. She asks me what I want and I never want a traditional cake. This is going on the top of the list for this year. Looking forward to 36.
This looks awesome. Plus I love butterfingers too. I love the Nestle cookie dough too so I am sure this is just as good.
wow, I never knew the trick about the soda. How cool is that. Love bundt cakes, must try this out.
