Are you looking for an uplifting Christmas gift? Maybe you know someone that enjoys expressing their creativity in a faith-based way.
Or perhaps, you know someone that needs a distraction—a way to relax that's bible based. I know the perfect thing—bible lettering + coloring art journals by Ellie Claire!
A little About Ellie Claire
Ellie Claire produces beautifully crafted journals, devotionals, and other creative gift and paper expressions.
They are one of five distinct imprints of the Worthy Publishing Group, who focuses on Christian and inspirational publishing. Their books are available at most major booksellers and online retailers.
First Thoughts On Ellie Claire's Bible Lettering + Coloring Art Journals
My first impression was “Wow!”—at the quality and detail of each bible lettering + coloring art journal. I could tell right off that these were high quality.
Each journal is hardback, has raised printed covers, and nice thick paper.
They all have 160 pages so you can journal and explore your God-given creativity.
I was asked to showcase three of their amazing bible lettering + coloring art journals:
- Illuminate Your Story Journal
- Faith & Lettering Journal
- The Illustrated Word
Illuminate Your Story Journal
This is a how-to journal that helps you create your own beautiful illuminated letters.
For reference, illuminated letters art a type of embellishment used in books, manuscripts, and bibles. They are typically the first letter of a page that enhances the overall piece and makes it come alive. In a lot of manuscripts, gold leaf is used causing a ‘glow' or illumination of the letters.
Features:
- easy to follow instructions
- practice pages
- the history of illuminated letters
- built-in bookmark
- inspirational quotes
Not only do you learn bible lettering, but there are also step by step instructions on how to make different animals and flourishes. This bible lettering journal is definitely geared more toward those who want to learn a new skill rather than journaling.
Faith & Lettering Journal
This bible lettering + coloring art journal will help you dig deeper into the Word of God through the art of lettering.
Hand lettering is different than calligraphy—each individual letter is its own work of art—not simply strokes.
Features:
- guides
- instructions
- tutorials
I think this journal has a more balanced combination of journal pages vs. bible lettering pages than the previous journal. SO it's better suited for someone who would like to do both.
You can learn to create some really neat quotes and verses in amazing hand lettering! I've always thought this art style is so cool. Perfect for those that want to improve their doodling skills.
However, it also teaches you how to draw calligraphy, flourishes, banners, and even some simple doodles as well.
The Illustrated Word
This is more of a coloring book than a bible lettering art journal. In this art journal, you get to color extremely detailed illustrations from the Museum of the Bible.
However, there are actually a lot of actual journal pages—way more than the other two books.
Features:
- a lot of journal pages
- 40 illustrations
This would be perfect for someone who actually wants to do sermon note taking or enhance their bible journaling skills. I love that this is mostly a journal with some coloring thrown in. Out of the bunch, this is the most ‘journal' like.
Even the cats liked them!
Love the book cover on it. My niece would love this .She can write her notes and also relax and do some of the coloring of the pictures too. Very nice for a gift for her.
They make great gifts! And are very relaxing too
I love these journals! Great idea for my step-sister for the holidays!
They are very well made. She will love them!
