It’s time to replace that old garage door and get one that has a more updated look – one with all the features of today’s best conveniences. When looking at the current selection of contemporary garage doors, there are a few popular choices that may work well with your budget and style.
Garage Door Materials
Let’s start with the always popular wooden garage door. These have been around for ages and are still very much in demand. The reason they stay contemporary is that wood is very easy to cut and carve into a customizable style.
Selecting a sturdy hardwood is going to be your best bet. Wooden doors can be plain, fancy, stained dark or painted in a color that matches your home perfectly.
The only thing about using wood for the door is its high maintenance.
The panels can break in which case you will need to order new panels from your local garage door repair company. Every so often, the door would need to be touched up to keep it looking nice too.
Also, be sure to weatherproof the wood to protect it even more!
Fiberglass is a lightweight material that works well as a substitute for wood. You also have some flexibility of style with this material.
Fiberglass also is much easier to care for and maintain. Being easier to lift, fiberglass contemporary garage doors can be lifted manually without straining your back, neck, and shoulders.
Probably the most popular material used in today’s contemporary garage doors is steel. You’ll often see this material used with roller and sectional doors.
Steel doors are perfect for automated opener systems where you simply press a button and the motor does all the work.
Ease and Speed
The trend is towards automated doors that run on either a chain drive or belt drive mechanism. Many systems come with a keypad that is installed near the door opening and is operated with a remote control.
You can program a secret security code into the opener and then use the remote to open and close the door. Chain mechanisms are quite popular, but noisy.
While belt drives are increasingly popular with those that need an opener that is quieter.
Contemporary Garage Doors are Affordable
One of the main things you’ll want to do is choose a style and system that works best within your budget.
If you want a fancy wooden door, keep in mind that this is going to be an expensive option. This all depends on the type of wood used, and labor hours needed to customize the door to your desired style.
Personally, this is my favorite style!
On the other hand, a steel sectional door is a very affordable option that works great for both small and larger garages.
Contemporary garage doors offer you a wide range of choices and you should base your decision on how much space you have, the proximity of the garage to certain rooms and, of course, your personal sense of taste.
