Getting bored at home? Why not redecorate your living room? You spend so much time there anyway. It might as well feel and look just how you want it to. Here are three easy ways to approach this fun task:
Observe From a Distance
Stand at a decent distance away and observe your living room for a few minutes. Stare at everything for a few seconds. Do you still need this? Do you still like it? Is it still trendy? Does it match the style you are going for? Note down everything – your likes and dislikes. By the end, you should have a pretty long list that will help you move forward.
Keeping It or Not
Keeping your budget in mind, you have to decide whether you should buy new stuff or if you are going to go the DIY route with some things. For example, you may have an old-fashioned leather lounge. It’s a fancy and expensive item that you love so you have a decision to make. Do you want to buy a new leather lounge or are you going to make it fit in by painting or polishing it?
Pinterest has all kinds of ideas that could help you out. Or you could even consider couch covers for an easy change.
Themes and Color Schemes
Now let’s move to the second step – selecting the theme or choosing a color scheme. For a living room, the colors should be soothing and calming with a little touch of vibrant and energizing colors.
Now consider the base color which can be white, grey or tans (I use all of these colors). And finally to add the energizing and exciting touch select a color from Yellow, Red or Orange (my pop color is yellow).
The theme is really a personal preference. Personally, I am into a mix of farmhouse with a touch of modern. I have friends going completely modern. It just depends on what you are trying to go for and what you like.
Getting Visuals
You have done the research, now it is time for action! Well, just a tiny more research is required, and then you will start the actual action. Search on the web for living room ideas. Google Images, Pinterest, and even stock photos can be an excellent source of ideas. This way you have an idea of exactly what you want to buy and what it looks like.
I like to screenshot or email myself ideas so I don't forget.
Go Shopping
Now for the fun part! Once all the research work is done, pick up your purse, drive to the store and start buying what you have to buy. Start with bigger items like sofas, leather lounges, tables, rugs, etc.
Don’t forget the color scheme and the style that you have finalized. Check back at all your notes and have fun! Once the shopping is done, come back home and let the decorating party begin.
