11 Home Decor and Design Hacks Nobody Wants You to Know

Anyone who watches design shows knows the value of the decor and design hacks. Those shows are addicting, huh? While the professionals may have a steep budget that leaves you envious that doesn't mean you can't get great decor for cheap. Here are 11 design hacks to help you style up your home for little money.

Wake up the entryway

The entryway is the first place in your house guests see. If you have a strong style, you can decorate the area with bold wallpaper and wow them from the start. Make sure to have a small place for keys too, though. It needs to be stylish yet practical.

Also, have a hook or something for hats, coats, and umbrellas and provide a bench. This will jazz up the space in a jiffy.

Look for repurposing

Repurposing is one of the best design hacks. If you have an old and unused ladder, you can easily turn it into a cute shoe rack or shelf.

Similarly, you can turn a teapot into a beautiful flower vase. All you need is your imagination. Almost anything can be repurposed.

Paint unusual places

Walls aren't the only thing you can paint. Try painting the sides of the doors and drawers with a fun color. People will love the surprise when they open or close them. It gives a great pop to any home decor.

This is really cheap to do too — most likely you already have some extra paint laying around the house. Grab a brush and get to it!

Use pennies for decoration

Pennies can add the majestic glow of copper to almost anything.

You can use them to create unique countertops and backsplashes. They are also great to embellish the lampshades and vases. You can add texture to anything by using pennies of different ages.

Improve doors with a ceiling medallion

Medallions typically go around a light fixture or fan, but they can be used almost anywhere. Install a ceiling medallion around a doorknob is really easy to do yet has a pretty big impact.

Just paint the medallion the same color as the door and in an instant, your door will go from drab to fab. It really classes up a joint.

Decorate with tapes

Create a geometric design on a wall with tapes. You can cover the entire wall or just make a certain area stand out. This is one of the most fun design hacks to create an accent wall. Think of all the designs you could make. The possibilities are endless.

Tapes can also be used for framing photos. Stick pictures on the wall and make frames using tapes. It'll bring a bit of whimsy to your decor and lift up the ambiance.

Drawing on light bulbs

This is great for a kid’s room.

Paint a clear bulb with heat-resistant glass paint. Draw funny lines and symbols, or whatever you like, on the bulb.

Light it up and it will create amazing patterns on the walls. Kids will love this!

Paint the walls up to man height

Painting walls part of the way up is one of those illusion design hacks. When you leave the upper portion blank as the ceiling, it rolls the eyes upwards. This creates an illusion of more vertical space.

This works great for rooms with a low ceiling.

Improve your headboard

The easiest way to spruce up a headboard is to cover it with a piece of colorful fabric. You may use a tapestry or any colorful fabric you like.

Of course, you can also paint it or uplift it by creating patterns with tapes too.

If your bed does not have a headboard, try placing it against the window. The curtains will act as the headboard and give the room a sense of completion.

Spray paint the doormat

Most doormats are simple and let's face it unimpressive. Moreover, they turn shabby and ugly due to prolonged use.

No need to buy more, though. You can spray paint them! Use a stencil to create shapes and patterns. This will give them a new lease on life.

Take care of the acoustics

Acoustic panels can turn the walls into a functional art piece. They add depth to the walls and prevent the bouncing of sounds making it a listeners’ paradise. Plus, they muffle any external sound too.

Plenty varieties of acoustic wall panels for home are available. You can get them as modular tiles, ceiling baffles, divider screens, and hanging solutions, etc. They come in a wide spectrum of colors making them suitable for different places. The best part of them is that you can customize them to fit any special décor need.

Conclusion

Although simple and affordable, the above design hacks are very effective. They will help you open your imagination so you can create a fascinating decor in inexpensive ways.

Go ahead and try a few or all of the above design hacks for revamping your home. They will make your home stand out for sure!
