alex easy camo name art craft

When I was pregnant with my oldest son we were SO excited, to say the least. It took a while to get to that point so we savored every moment. We decorated his nursery in a moons and stars theme and put his name in wooden letters above his bed. We loved it!

I got to thinking, my youngest son didn't get his name above his crib. Heck, I don't think he's every had any name art. Well, he's 6 years old now so I figured it was about time considering is brother got it at day one.

Instead of just buying something with his name on it I decided to have him help me create his own name art. He loves anything artsy and had a blast doing it. He loved the results!

Supplies

  • painters tape
  • liquid chalk markers
  • blank canvas

Directions

blank canvas

To get started you will need a blank stretched canvas. I got a two pack at Walmart for under $6! Take the painters tape and position it to form the name or word you want to feature. A lot of people like to use the word LOVE instead of a name.

To color my canvas we used Glasser Liquid Chalk Markers. It's almost like coloring with a paint pen. On the canvas, it looked just like paint which was perfect for the look we were going for. My set included 8 neon markers that were very simple to use.

To use them simply shake them up while pressing down on the tip repeatedly until the liquid chalk fills the tip. From there you can color as normal. If you notice the color lightening up while drawing simply repeat the process.

These chalk markers have a reversible tip (either round or chisel) allowing you to create thick or thin lines. All with just a turn of the tip! While making our camo name art we got our hands and arms brightly colored in chalk paint. No worries, it easily washed off with just water! Luckily, these chalk markers are water based and non-toxic which makes them perfect for kids.

To make our camo name art we simply took the chalk markers and colored little splotches all over the canvas. We tried to make sure that the same colors never touched. If we missed a spot we just colored right on over it with a new color. It never hurts to mix a little paint! That's half the fun of art.

Once the liquid chalk dries carefully remove the painter's tape and your name or word will appear. If you chose take the white liquid chalk marker to smooth out any chalk bleeds around the edges of the letters. You can see where I did this on the bottom of the X.

My son loves his new camo name art and has it proudly displayed in his room. Better late than never!

Are you a fan of camo?
