As parents, we do everything we can to save money. We also do everything possible to set the best example. What if we were to tell you that you can mix the two by incorporating new technology into your home? Chances are, it would be a no-brainer.
New inventions have made it possible to save money on energy while teaching us how to be more green with our usage. Both are lessons most parents would love to teach their children. We’re going to take a look at some of the inventions that could save you a ton, and lessen your carbon footprint!
UPGRADE YOUR ELECTRICITY
Most old power switchboards are basic. They show which wire supplies which room, and allow you to control the flow to each. But, getting a switchboard upgrade could change the way you use electricity forever.
Opting for a smart meter during your upgrade means that you can track your usage. You and your energy supplier will be able to see when you use the most power. That way, you can create a realistic plan for cutting back. You’ll also be able to see where you’re wasting power. Things like leaving lights on will become a thing of the past when you know how much it costs you!
GET SMART WITH YOUR HEAT
Heating. It costs a ton, and it’s terrible for the environment. But, none of us would be without it. So, what can we do? One thing that could make a huge difference to the damage your heat use causes is to get a wifi thermostat. There are now a few of these on the market, and they’re worth the investment.
They allow you to control your thermostat from wherever you are, as long as you can access the internet. You won’t have to set the heat on a timer anymore. Instead, you can turn it on so that the house is heating when you get home. This option also rids the possibility of leaving the heating on all day. All you would need to do is turn it off from your phone!
Another fantastic investment worth making is a heat zoning system. There’s no denying that they aren’t cheap, but they’ll make such a difference. With one of these, you can control the heat to individual zones in your house. That way, you aren’t paying to heat a room you’re not using. It saves the planet valuable resources, and you get to cut your heat bills. What’s not to love?
USE THE POWER OF THE SUN
Long gone are the days when the only option for solar panels are the large, roof fitted ones. Now, it’s possible to buy portable solar panels in any size you can think of.
The benefit of these is that they’re more accessible, and you can move them to the best position for the sun. You don’t need us to tell you that solar energy is the way of the future. Plus it can qualify you for an energy rebate or tax deduction to save you even more!
