Are you ready to rock 2020? I know I am. No more sitting back and waiting for great things to happen to me. I am going to make them happen with an action plan! Does this sound like the kind of year you are looking forward to? It is definitely what I want 2020 to look like, so let’s do this!
First things first, we need to set goals for the new year. Without setting goals, we are all just going to flounder. Seriously. It may seem like you are accomplishing stuff moving through life day after day, but that’s all that is happening. You are moving through. Let’s push through and make life what we want it to be by choosing to set goals for the new year.
If you have no idea where to start, no worries. I am here to help! Here are some goal setting tips that will prepare you to rock 2020.
1. Write it down
If I could tell you what the most important of all goal-setting tips are, my first choice would be to write it down. Seriously.
When you write them down or type them out, you are putting your goal into motion. It’s out there now. There’s no taking it back after you have already said what you wanted, right?
Better yet hire the best high-performance life coach and make your dreams a reality.
2. Set a limit
Look, I want to have a million dollars and five vacation homes too, but if you set these massive goals for yourself, you are only going to be disappointed. Set a realistic goal for yourself. Or, set 5 smaller goals instead of one giant one. It will help you move forward.
3. Be very specific
Another of my favorite goal setting tips is to be very specific in setting your goals. When you write your goals down, make sure that you are very specific in your goals.
Let’s say your goal is to save money. Instead of writing down “save money,” make your goal, “I want to save $XXX.” Having a specific goal makes it easier to hold yourself accountable for it.
4. Chose excitement
If you aren’t excited about a goal, you aren’t going to move toward it. Actively select a goal that you are passionate about.
The excitement of reaching that goal will help motivate you.
5. Create an action plan
Create an action plan that will help you reach your goal. After writing down your plan, write down what needs to be done to get there.
For instance, if you want to have luscious hair by the end of the year, what steps do you need to take to make that happen?
You might need to invest in the best edge growth serum to maximize your hair growth or some clipper grips. These kinds of steps need to be included in your action plan.
6. Set deadlines for your goal
It is crucial to set deadlines for your goal and for the steps that you have to take to be included in your action plan. Following and reaching these deadlines help keep you accountable as you move forward. It's helpful for your motivation to find yourself reaching smaller goals with these deadlines.
7. Be willing to change your goals
Now, I don’t want you to change your goals altogether, but it is helpful to be a little bit flexible in changing your deadlines or the steps that need to be taken in your action plan. As long as you are still moving forward toward your goals, you are making progress.
8. Share your goal with others
Having others know your goals is a great motivator for working toward them. It all boils down to accountability. When others can ask you how your goals are coming along, you are more likely to be working on them.
9. Keep your goals in plain sight
Write down your goals again, but this time, write them down on a sticky note or a small piece of paper. Next, put them up and in plain sight. Tape them to your refrigerator, your bathroom mirror, or on the wall near your front door. The location is up to you. Just be sure that you post them up wherever you know you will see them.
Having a constant reminder is very helpful.
10. Review your goals
Set a monthly meeting for yourself to review your goals and your progress. This will help keep you on track and keep you accountable for your progress. Feel free to use these self-meetings to make any changes that your goals may need.
