Halloween Treat Ideas that Aren't Candy

Caramel apple pops or candy corn, Halloween is all about stocking up on sweets. Well, that is what the core theme of this fun holiday is all about—having fun and indulging in good food. But we are all aware and conscious about letting our children eat right and not spoil them with unnecessary amounts of sugar. OOLY can help!

Eating a lot of candy and sweets can spoil their appetites and create wrong eating habits. In the end, we all know healthy food will end up being less appealing to your kids than candy, of course. However, they can still enjoy the spirit of the season quite easily. Here is a list of treat ideas to make your Halloween healthy, fun and candy free.

Organic Juice and Snack Packs

Juice boxes and snack packs are great treat ideas for kids who are walking around trick or treating in the neighborhood. Organic juices have less sugar content and are good to quench your little one’s thirst before hitting the next house.

You can make the boxes or snack bags look spooky by either coloring or embellishing them in a fun way. This way they will be eye-appealing and they will want to enjoy their creepy drinks and snacks on their walk.

Who knows—maybe it will tire them out. I know when my belly is full, I am much more likely to get sleepy and call it quits.

Glow Sticks and Bands

A survey conducted by the National Safety Council states that children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Hence in order to keep the children visible on a dark, low lit night, hand out glow bands or sticks.

They can have fun with it by accessorizing it the way they love while keeping them safe. Wrapping it around the neck, head or hand can make it an interesting look with the costumes they are wearing.

Stickers or Temporary Tattoos

Stickers are a weakness to every kid out there. Do some research on trending characters and stock up on these fun adhesives to hand out as treats.

They can have a fun day sticking these to anything and everything.

And scary temporary tattoos will be a huge hit among the kids too. Instead of sweet treats that can give them a bad toothache, give them engaging treats that can make good memories.

Cute Monster Themed Art & School Supplies from OOLY

Get monster-themed stationery like pencils, erasers, markers or notepads to hand out to the kiddos. It's not candy and as an extra benefit, they can use your treats when they get back to school to spark their creativity.

The Monster Pals Writing Super Set from OOLY would be a perfect choice! It features over 35 individual stationery items (once you open and separate the packs) that are colorful, fun, and that the kids are sure to love.

OOLY Monster Graphite Pencils

Monster Graphite Pencils

Say hello to a set of 12 Monster Graphite Pencils, #2 graphite pencils with 4 fun monster designs on the barrels. Make school work more fun!

We were able to sharpen these to a sharp point without the lead falling out. If you are a parent you know this can be a task with some pencils.

Monster Gel Pens

ooly gel pens

ooly

The Monster Gel Pens sport monster face-shaped caps that can connect with each other making it easy to keep all 4 pens together. The black gel ink makes writing smooth and fluid especially with the fine point nib.

These work so well for when my son has cursive homework. Nothing is worse than when you are trying to write a word in one motion but the pen gets stuck. Totally not an issue with these pens!

OOLY Monster Stacking Erasers

ooly

Grab one of the 3 Monster Stacking Erasers and you are ready for any mistakes. Each of the eraser's arms can be interchanged allowing for more colorful fun.

Way more fun than those boring pink or white erasers, yet they do just as good a job erasing!

Monster 6 Click Multi Pen

Monster 6 Click Multi Pen is the pen to take when you need lots of color but don't have much room. Simply click to get the ballpoint color of your choice.

OOLY Pocket Pal Mini Notebooks

8 days a week you'll have a mini-monster notebook for each day! Pocket Pal Mini Notebooks (set of 8) are the perfect size (3.5 x 5) for your little monster. Each colorful monster journal has a stitched binding with 32 lined sheets.

OOLY Monster ClickIt Eraser

ooly eraser

Monster ClickIt Eraser is ready to be clicked into action-one click & you are erasing. Don't miss the cute design in the eraser end as well.

I love that this eraser is about the size of a large marker or pen. Its size makes it so much easier for my son to keep track of. Plus it erases well!

Mighty Sharpener

pencil sharpener

Keeping everything sharp for you is the Mighty Sharpener; a 3-hole pencil sharpener that’ll fit just about any pencil. From chunky to fine point, you are covered.

Sharpens to a point very easily!

OOLY Mini Monsters Scented Neon Highlighters

ooly highlighters

Mini Monsters Scented Neon Highlighters have 6 different fruit scents. And these 6 little neon highlighters couldn't be any cuter with the little monster faces on each.

My favorite scents come from the blue, pink, and purple highlighters. They are sweet, fruity scents while the other three have a citrus note to them.

Monsters On A Roll Decorative Sticker Tape

monster tape

Monsters On A Roll decorative sticker tape which is perfect for adding scary fun to calendars, journals and more. Included is 1 roll of monster characters and 2 rolls of patterns refills.

OOLY Scratch and Scribble Scratch Art Kit-Monster Pals

And for some arty fun Scratch and Scribble Scratch Art Kit-Monster Pals. There are 8 scratch cards (5.8 x 8.3) that will reveal the illustrations of colorful and cute monster designs. You can also do your own designs on the included blank scratch cards-2 cards will reveal rainbow colors the other 2 sparkly colors. And don't forget the sheet of sparkled sticker sheet (7.8 x7.8). Scratching tool included

OOLY is all about making people smile with their colorful and inspiring writing and art supplies. They most definitely do this with this fun, monster-themed gift set!

Art and school supplies will keep the kids busy for days, which is so much longer than the fleeting pleasure candy provides. Whether you split up this set up and give the contents out to trick or treaters or gift the whole thing to a loved one, you'll be a hit!

Halloween Accessories

Halloween accessories come in a large variety of options from zombie's fingers, devil horns to vampire's teeth. These plastic accessories are available at all party stores for cheap.

And who won’t be thrilled to get one of these chilling toys on Halloween?

Fruit Juice Pops

Get spooky molds and freeze freshly made juice in them to make spine chilling pops. Play with colors and shapes to make it appealing for the kids.

Add honey as a sweetening agent to keep the pops sugar-free and healthy. You will be an instant hit with this easy-to-make Halloween treat.

Toys and Slap Bracelets

With a huge collection of toys and slap bracelets available in stores, pick up miniature ones that can fit in the treat baskets. Hand out pumpkin balls, glow-in-the-dark ghosts, stretchable zombie figures, etc. Kids will be more than happy to forget candy if they are getting toys instead.

Slap bracelets were cool then and are still cool now!

Remember that you are dealing with children so maintain strict health standards if you are making treats at home. Do not give kids food items that are not packaged well for hygiene purposes.

According to What To Expect,

Once you’re home, do a candy check, and throw out anything that is unwrapped, homemade by anyone you don’t know well, as well as anything that looks even vaguely suspicious (like loose candy in a plastic bag), or sweets that can turn into choking hazards (sticky, chewy, or hard candies, anything with caramel, popcorn, nuts, gum).

I don’t eat a lot of sugar products. And I sure don’t do any baking. 🙂 Have to admit there are few things that are baked during the holidays that I have to have a few bites of

I don’t usually eat sugar. The most sugar I had this holiday was some toffee nuts. cakes, pies, cookies and everything else I have stayed away from for about 5 years now and it has become very easy actually.

Now this is something that I would buy for my great niece’s (3) treats. She would be happy with pens, pencils, etc. She is not a big candy eater. Is she was offered a candy bar or pretzels/cheese, she would choose the pretzel/cheese.

I was a very shy, awkward child. My mother liked to push me out to play with the other little girls, but I didn’t enjoy the same things they did – I preferred to read. And we lived in Chicago, so it was often very cold on Halloween, resulting in trying to wear a coat over whatever costume I had (try that with angel wings on). One woman declared that we had to do some kind of trick to get treats. I was ready to leave at that point, but of course the others wanted their treats. No candy is worth that kind of aggravation, and my mother wouldn’t let me eat much of it anyway. Since I’ve been an adult for many years, I’ve seen Halloween expand to people driving kids to our neighborhood from other areas and teenagers much taller than I am come around wanting candy. If it were just kept to neighbors’ small children, and if the said neighbors were at least friendly the rest of the year, it would be ok, but I can’t approve of people teaching their kids that it’s ok to beg for candy from strangers.
