Caramel apple pops or candy corn, Halloween is all about stocking up on sweets. Well, that is what the core theme of this fun holiday is all about—having fun and indulging in good food. But we are all aware and conscious about letting our children eat right and not spoil them with unnecessary amounts of sugar. OOLY can help!
Eating a lot of candy and sweets can spoil their appetites and create wrong eating habits. In the end, we all know healthy food will end up being less appealing to your kids than candy, of course. However, they can still enjoy the spirit of the season quite easily. Here is a list of treat ideas to make your Halloween healthy, fun and candy free.
Organic Juice and Snack Packs
Juice boxes and snack packs are great treat ideas for kids who are walking around trick or treating in the neighborhood. Organic juices have less sugar content and are good to quench your little one’s thirst before hitting the next house.
You can make the boxes or snack bags look spooky by either coloring or embellishing them in a fun way. This way they will be eye-appealing and they will want to enjoy their creepy drinks and snacks on their walk.
Who knows—maybe it will tire them out. I know when my belly is full, I am much more likely to get sleepy and call it quits.
Glow Sticks and Bands
A survey conducted by the National Safety Council states that children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Hence in order to keep the children visible on a dark, low lit night, hand out glow bands or sticks.
They can have fun with it by accessorizing it the way they love while keeping them safe. Wrapping it around the neck, head or hand can make it an interesting look with the costumes they are wearing.
Stickers or Temporary Tattoos
Stickers are a weakness to every kid out there. Do some research on trending characters and stock up on these fun adhesives to hand out as treats.
They can have a fun day sticking these to anything and everything.
And scary temporary tattoos will be a huge hit among the kids too. Instead of sweet treats that can give them a bad toothache, give them engaging treats that can make good memories.

The Monster Gel Pens sport monster face-shaped caps that can connect with each other making it easy to keep all 4 pens together. The black gel ink makes writing smooth and fluid especially with the fine point nib.
These work so well for when my son has cursive homework. Nothing is worse than when you are trying to write a word in one motion but the pen gets stuck. Totally not an issue with these pens!
OOLY Monster Stacking Erasers

Toys and Slap Bracelets
With a huge collection of toys and slap bracelets available in stores, pick up miniature ones that can fit in the treat baskets. Hand out pumpkin balls, glow-in-the-dark ghosts, stretchable zombie figures, etc. Kids will be more than happy to forget candy if they are getting toys instead.
Slap bracelets were cool then and are still cool now!
Remember that you are dealing with children so maintain strict health standards if you are making treats at home. Do not give kids food items that are not packaged well for hygiene purposes.
According to What To Expect,
Once you’re home, do a candy check, and throw out anything that is unwrapped, homemade by anyone you don’t know well, as well as anything that looks even vaguely suspicious (like loose candy in a plastic bag), or sweets that can turn into choking hazards (sticky, chewy, or hard candies, anything with caramel, popcorn, nuts, gum).
I don’t eat a lot of sugar products. And I sure don’t do any baking. 🙂 Have to admit there are few things that are baked during the holidays that I have to have a few bites of
That’s good. Sugar isn’t that good for you anyway
I don’t usually eat sugar. The most sugar I had this holiday was some toffee nuts. cakes, pies, cookies and everything else I have stayed away from for about 5 years now and it has become very easy actually.
You must have strong willpower
I choose my favorite sweet food. I select a modest portion and eat mydesired food slowly
Sounds like you have a great plan in place
I would like to say I control my sugar intake very well around the holidays but I don’t. I definitely steer clear of soda at all times though.
Yes soda drinks are packed with sugar
Now this is something that I would buy for my great niece’s (3) treats. She would be happy with pens, pencils, etc. She is not a big candy eater. Is she was offered a candy bar or pretzels/cheese, she would choose the pretzel/cheese.
That’s awesome that your niece is not a candy fan. That is so rare in children
I love whne my kids get stuff other than candy. My youngest has some food allergies, so it’s just easier if it’s not candy/food.
I’m sorry to hear about the food allergies. That can make Halloween rough
I don’t eat/drink a lot of sugar…… Soda I might have 2 in a month at most. As for candy sometimes I have piece and it taste good other time not so good.
That’s great you don’t eat a lot of sugar
These are all great ideas. I don’t give out candy around Halloween since our neighborhood doesn’t have children.
I’m guessing you are in an older established neighborhood then
What fun ideas. I try to limit my portions of treats. I also give away a lot of the cookies I make.
That’s a new thought. I haven’t seen anyone give away cookies before
I wish i could eat candy like i used to but being diabetic and all have to limit sugar intake a lot and avoid sugary drinks and candies. im glad they have sugarfree candy for us to enjoy candy still without all the fructose corn syrup.
I’m glad there are sugar-free options available because I don’t think I could live with zero sweetness lol
These are all great ideas. I’ll pass them on to my day. We have Halloween where i live.
My oldest granddaughter would prefer to get this writing set instead of candy. When my boys were little they got to pick 2 pieces of candy a day.
We do that with our boys too – they can pick two or three candy a day for a dessert.
These products are such cute ideas. To much candy is not good for any of us. I know my grandchildren would love getting any of these items. Thank you so much for sharing
I’m so happy to hear your grandchildren would love this writing set
we dont keep from sugar on halloween. its onetime we can cheat
Halloween does make a good cheat day
This is such a cute set, the monsters are adorable! All of my kids would love receiving this. Thanks for sharing!
We are a fan of the cute Monsters too
These are such great ideas. We are always working on ways to cut back on sugar. It can be so hard. Thank you so much for sharing these great items
Cutting back on sugar can be hard especially if you need a sweet everyday
As a teacher, I try to limit the amount of sugar I give my students. I try to make easy homemade items for my students and Trick-or-Treaters. My current go-to is to use pumpkin and bat silicon molds to make Halloween-shaped crayons.
I’m so happy to hear you don’t give your students much sugar and I bet they love the crayons
These Ideas are great. I often worry when gibing candy with all the allergies out there and the thought of a little one eating the wrong thing before it is checked for them.
I worry about the allergies too but I have to assume parents are doing their part
I live in the country also so I don’t see little kids at Halloween. My daughter, however, will enjoy all these tidbits of ideas and information. I think it’s an Awesome way of cutting down on sugar.
Thank you for sharing this information with your daughter
These are all great ideas
Love those ideas! I remember when I was a kid, my absolute favorite house to go to wasn’t the one that was passing out full size candy bars, but the house that gave out sticker sheets!
That’s too cute. We had a house this year that had a whole station set up of different toys and things that weren’t candy. It was pretty neat
My daughter would LOVE all these cute items by OOLY. She would much prefer cute, fun pens and school supplies over candy anyway.
I’m so happy to hear your daughter would prefer this writing set over candy.
These would be fun to gift to my nephew. My kids are 11 1/2 and 14, so they like plain jane stuff now. Super fun though!
I know what you mean. My thirteen-year-old wouldn’t touch this stuff lol but his brother loves it.
No, I live right in the middle of Atlanta. But I take care of my mom and she lives in a senior high rise building.
This writing set looks wonderful! My 10-year-old granddaughter balks at writing assignments, journaling, etc., but I bet she’d be inspired by the Monster set. Having fun writing supplies makes the entire process more fun.
This writing set definitely would make any project more fun
It’s a cute set. I’ve always disliked Halloween, even as a child, and seldom get trick-or-treaters where I live. There are a few children in the general neighborhood, but I don’t know any of them. Halloween is just another day in my life.
Why don’t you like Halloween?
I was a very shy, awkward child. My mother liked to push me out to play with the other little girls, but I didn’t enjoy the same things they did – I preferred to read. And we lived in Chicago, so it was often very cold on Halloween, resulting in trying to wear a coat over whatever costume I had (try that with angel wings on). One woman declared that we had to do some kind of trick to get treats. I was ready to leave at that point, but of course the others wanted their treats. No candy is worth that kind of aggravation, and my mother wouldn’t let me eat much of it anyway. Since I’ve been an adult for many years, I’ve seen Halloween expand to people driving kids to our neighborhood from other areas and teenagers much taller than I am come around wanting candy. If it were just kept to neighbors’ small children, and if the said neighbors were at least friendly the rest of the year, it would be ok, but I can’t approve of people teaching their kids that it’s ok to beg for candy from strangers.
I understand your concerns. As for teenagers, I would much rather them try to get candy then doing some of those Halloween pranks some kids do
I taught my kids that they can indulge in sweets in moderation. They rarely eats sweets now because they could have them.
I’m so happy you taught your kids the importance of moderation
These are all great ideas. I’ll pass them on to my day. We don’t get visitors on Halloween where I live.
I guess you don’t live around any little kids. Are you out in the country?
