A body scrub (also known as a body polish) is like a facial for the body; it exfoliates and moisturizes your skin and makes it supple and soft. It is a very popular treatment all over the world which is done by using an abrasive material such as sea salt or sugar mixed with aromatic oils.
On the other hand, bath soaks are meant to enhance an already relaxing experience. However, what most people don't know is that they have many health benefits as well.
Process of Using a Body Scrub
Typically, when you use a body polish you will be in the bathtub or shower, but if you are lucky you can experience this luxury in a spa. There, you will face down on a massage table and a therapist will gently scrub your back, arms, legs, and feet.
When it's over, they will ask you to rinse it off avoiding the use of shower gel or soap. Later on, they will apply lotion or oil to hydrate your skin.
If you are doing this at home keep the following in mind:
- Only use a body scrub once or twice a week
- Gently scrub your skin in a circular motion
- Rely on homemade natural ingredients such as banana, sugar, coffee, and salt or use a product like Moon Luv
- Do not apply any soap after exfoliating
- After rinsing, apply a moderate amount of oil or lotion to hydrate your skin
The Benefits of Body Polishes
There are many types of scrubs available to rejuvenate your skin such as sugar, salt, herbal, coffee, and moisturizing body scrubs. It's extremely important that you select a scrub that does not affect your skin negatively or cause an allergy. With this process, we are wanting to help your skin not hurt it.
Here are a few benefits of using a body polish and/or bath soak:
Decreases Stress
Besides its beauty benefits, it is a great way to bring your stress level down. The relaxing environment of a spa and just the simple action of gently scrubbing your body releases tension and relaxes you.
Just like body scrubs, bath soaks do wonders for body health and beauty. Bathing with warm water infused with salt is a great way to relieve stress from your mind, body, and muscles.
Removes Dead Skin
Not only our faces, but our body also gets a thick layer of dead skin because of dust and pollution in the environment. Body scrubs and bath soaks help remove your rough surfaces and bring out soft, supple baby skin.
Improves Your Confidence Level
When you exfoliate dead skin cells, it removes impurities and rough skin. Blemishes and discoloration are often removed with it as well.
After this, you will be left with beautiful skin; it will naturally boost your confidence and make you feel great.
Helps Blemishes and Skin Discoloration
When you ignore your skin and neglect it, your skin gets damaged day by day. The thick layer of impurities on your body clog pores, which can cause blemishes.
Body scrubs not only improve the health of your skin but also decrease the chance of acne by removing dead skin.
The Benefits of Bath Soaks
Detoxifies Your Skin
Soaking in sea salt decreases eczema, psoriasis and even rheumatoid arthritis. Different studies show that bath soaks can improve skin health, cell growth, and skin color and texture.
It also is a great way to flush out toxins from your skin and body too!
Deceases Muscles Cramps
Bath soaks boost blood circulation to the muscles, which decreases cramps and pain and gives you a sense of relaxation.
Can Help Sleep Disorder
Taking a warm soak can improve health issues such as insomnia. If someone suffers from a sleep disorder; indulging in a bath soak can calm you and encourage inner peace.
Improves Heart Issues
Soaking in a bath has also been known to lower your blood pressure, making your overall cardiac performance better.
Balances Your Hormones
A good bath soak can also help some fertility issues, by balancing out hormones (like beta-endorphins and cortisol).
Plus a warm bath will increase your levels of serotonin, improving your overall health and wellbeing—something that's always good for fertility.
Final Thoughts
Body polishes and bath soaks have uncountable benefits, giving you a supple layer of younger-looking skin and making you feel fresh and more youthful.
Although you can get these done as part of spa treatment, you can also do them at home which is just as easy and way less expensive. One of my favorite all-natural luxury bath soak & bath & body oil brands is Moon Luv.
Read on to see why I love them:

Moon Luv Hibiscus Coconut Monoi Bath Soak
This bath soak is perfect for relaxing after a long day. It features sea salt, Hibiscus Blossoms, rose clay, Rose Quartz, Coconut Monoi, Shea, and Camelia.
When using the Hibiscus Coconut Monoi Bath Soak I feel at one with nature and totally relaxed. Plus it makes my skin super soft too!
Moon Luv Hibiscus Coconut Monoi Body Polish
To be honest, this was my first experience with a body polish. I've known the benefits of exfoliating your face since I was a kid, but not once have I thought to exfoliate my whole body.
What was I thinking?
It makes total sense. People exfoliate their faces to unclog pores and make their skin silky smooth. They look more youthful and let's face — just plain better!
Why in the world wouldn't you want those benefits over your whole body, I have no idea? I must have had a brain fart.
Moon Luv Hibiscus Coconut Monoi Body Polish is very lightly scented with hibiscus blossoms, rose quartz, coconut monoi, and Tahitian gardenias. It's a faint sweet scent (and taste) and perfect for those that can't tolerate strongly perfumed products.
Did you catch that — taste? That's right—my cousin was helping me with this product and somehow she accidentally tasted it! She said it tasted like an exotic upscale frosting that she could definitely ‘polish off'. I couldn't help but laugh 😉
The moisturizing benefits of this Moon Luv Body Polish are very apparent during and after use. You can see and feel the moisturizing oils doing their thing while polishing your body. This oily residue soaks in overtime leaving behind soft, lightly scented skin. It's amazing!
Moon Luv's body scrubs and bath soaks sound pretty awesome, right? Remember to take care of yourself and try Moon Luv today!
You can purchase Moon Luv products online via their website. Happy scrubbing guys!
exfoliate your face and body, i YES I do i have several exfoliate race products in the shower. As for body I have to be very carefull on what exfoliate body scrub I use. No oils as a senior don’t want to fall
That’s true tubs can become very slippery. If your shower has a tile floor those acid washes do great to make the tile rougher. We did that in my grandfather’s shower.
My skin tends to be dry. A body scrub helps to renew my skin.
Gently scrubbing off dead skin allows healthier skin to emerge
I have exfoliated in the past. I don’t do it very often because I have very sensitive skin.
My skin is sensitive too. You just have to scrub gently and don’t do it often
These products sound so nice. I love using a body scrub and as I get older I feel they really help. I will be giving this product a try soon. Thank you so much for sharing
I’m so happy to hear body scrubs help your aging skin
i like using bath bombs. love the smell
What’s your favorite kind of bath bomb?
I used to do this often but lately I have been slipping. I really need to do it more now since my skin is aging. These sound like great products. Thank you so much for sharing this
This could definitely help your aging skin
I’ve used sugar scrubs on my hands and feet in the past, however, I’ve never exfoliated my face. I definitely need to do more to my legs, especially in the dry Colorado winters.
I’m quite the opposite. I tend to do my face but forget my body.
I use a shower gel that has exfoliants in for my body. When I’m done showering and moisturizing my body I use a facial exfoliant to make my face feel fresh and clean.
Sounds like you have a great routine set up
I do pretty much. Got to take care of my skin and body
I’m so happy to hear you are taking care of yourself
I try to drink plenty of water which is always good for your skin. I also love sugar scrubs and there is nothing better than a hot bath with some bath soaks. 🙂
I’m trying to stay on top of my fluid intake as we speak
Oh my goodness, a body scrub sounds amazing right now! Although I really had no clue that you weren’t supposed to use soap afterwards.
It’s best to use the soap first then exfoliate and end with moisturizing
I love scrubs, especially after a hard workout or run. It really makes my skin feel clean and smooth. I would love to try this bath soak. It would be really relaxing for muscles.
It’s the best feeling
I use an exfoliator scrub daily and glycolic acid once a month on my face. I am surprised I have any skin left..lol
Once a month isn’t too often
sould like it will help your skin out i would love to try it out to see if it helps.
You should give it a try
I’ve always exfoliated my face, but rarely my body. It sounds like it’s just what I need!
It’s a good habit to get into
I love body scrubs! They definitely help keep my skin soft and moist in the winter.
You are so right. It’s a must in winter
I exfoliate all the time it feels better on my skin when I do for some reason I like using saint Ives so good 10/10
That smooth fresh feel is the best
I love body scrubs! They make your skin soft and makes you smell so good! I’ve never tried body polishes though.
Body polishes and body scrubs are the same thing just a different name
I do both exfoliate my face and body. Important once one gets older because the skin does not turn over as quickly as when we are younger.
Anything to keep us looking as young as possible Right
no exfoliation here….content with my beard
no exfoliation here….content with my beard
true…..lol
Body scrubs sound awesome but I’ve never used them. The bath soak might help my aging muscles. I should try this out
Body soaks are definitely relaxing
I make my own body scrubs and bath soaks. They are easy to make and I know just what’s in them. They also make good gifts.
Do you have any recipes?
No, I never have used such things on my face and have only tried exfoliation on my body a couple times. I’ve been fortunate to have good skin, but I also never used much makeup. A little blush is about the most I ever use these days. I have sensitive skin, which is also oily in spots and dry in others.
I’m happy to hear you have such great skin
I exfoliate my face weekly. I really should exfoliate my body more regularly .
It’s usually a maintenance thing most people forget
I do not exfoliate. My daughter uses this suff all the time.
These body scrubs and bath salts would make a perfect gift for your daughter then
I use a Foreo Luna to exfoliate my face. And I use a scrub with epsom salt to exfoliate my body. I’ll have to try out this brand!
Moon Luv is amazing!
No I never have had to exfoliate. I’m happy about it too. My skin is pretty sensitive it. It Would tear it up. I’ve been blessed with my mother’s complexion and skin and it’s always been clear. Now I have wrinkles and fine lines though. Hate them
Exfoliation can help with wrinkles and Fine Lines
I’ve been gifted during Christmas some lovely scrubs. A couple too oily and some just hard scrub. I’m seeking good ones and you’ve given me ideas!
You should try moon luv out
I have used exfoliats and the like for my skin. I believe that they are perfect for renewing your skin and body.
Yes, they are – great for getting off any dead skin!
I love salt and coffee scrubs. I’ve used them when I’m in the midst of a migraine to release stress. I really need to make it more of a priority though, because the benefits outweigh my reluctance to add time in the shower! Lol on “accidental” tasting
Do you have a favorite scrub brand? Or do you make them yourself?
I exfoliate my body and face weekly. I have dry skin and if I don’t exfoliate I feel like my skin won’t take in moisture correctly. It’s a huge help with acne and scarring as well which I’ve suffered with. Definitely giving this a try!
I have really dry skin too
I try to drink plenty of water which is always good for your skin. I also love sugar scrubs and there is nothing better than a hot bath with some bath soaks. 🙂
Yes, water is so important for our skin. I need to drink more of it!
Bath soak and body scrub is the easiest way to help body and mind relax while cleanse away the dead skin and revealing smooth new skin. Love the soft and smooth skin after treatment.
Yes, that silky smooth feeling is the best!
I do not care for scrubs and exfoliating gunk. I prefer to exfoliate with brisk washing with bath poufs, which I replace frequently. I am disabled and cannot sit in a tub any more, so bath soaks don’t do me any good. I take refreshing showers, with the water as warm as possible. I do like to use an exfoliating scrub weekly on my face.
Using a bath pouf does the trick!
I have been exfoliating my face for about a month now. What a big difference. My body could really use this. I will be giving this a try. Thank you for sharing
Let me know how it turns out!
I have just recently started doing this to my face. My whole body could use it though. These products sound great. I will be checking them out
I’m sure it could – most people forget to exfoliate their bodies.
I make my own body exfoliator with brown sugar, oil, and scented oils. However, I purchase two separate products to exfoliate my face and lips. It might be my favorite part of my beauty routine.
Do you have a recipe for your scrub? Sounds perfect!
I love a good body scrub. I feel perfected afterwards.
What kind do you use?
Haven’t done a body scrub in a while. Interesting. I recently tried this indian healing clay I got from amazon- It works quite well.
Is the healing clay more like a mask?
Yes it is
I do use a homemade coffee body scrub once a week.
What do you put in your scrub?
i love boady and face soaks. makes me feel freash
Nothing better than a nice soak!
My skin tends to be dry. I exfoliate my skin often. Feel so much better afterwards.
I have dry skin too. Exfoliating does wonders!
I do exfoliate my face and body, when I’m being good–which is not that often. Thanks for sharing!
Haha, I know that feeling.
I always use exfoliatng products on my face as I feel way fresher and cleaner after. I have problems with dry body skin, so I exfoliate my body less often than my face.
I’m glad you like the way exfoliation makes your face feel
My 11 year old was using a lot of my body scrub. I taught him how to make his own. We should try this brand out.
What do you put in your DIY scrub?
Sugar, coconut, I dry citrus peelings (grind it) and put it in there, along with essential oils that have a citrus smell.
I bet I would love the smell of that
My skin tends to be dry. A body scrub helps to renew my skin.
It’s the best feeling. isn’t it?
I would love to try their bath soak. Whenever I soak in a salt bath, it helps my muscles so much. It’s worth taking the time for.
I know what you mean – bath soaks are SO relaxing!
I love body scrubs, esp for my arms!
What is your favorite kind?
I do take care of my skin i put lotion on my legs dace and body it makes it smooth
Awesome! I need to moisturize my legs more often. They get itchy.
