Finding the right decorations for your home can be difficult when your family is full of nerds. You might be tempted just to put the Funko Pops and various other obsessions away until they’re inevitably worth something, but that’s so boring.
Instead, you should use what you’ve got to decorate your home and create a cohesive design scheme that is totally yours.
Buy Modern-Designed Furniture
Modern furniture is sleek and simple, making it easy to feel like you’re on the bridge of the Enterprise without being too much of a gimmick. It also gives you a lot of flat surfaces to work with.
The only drawback to modern furniture like this is it often doesn’t come with a lot of hidden storage.
Hide and Organize Your Cords
No one wants to stare at a wall covered in cords, no matter whether those cords are for your air purifier or your television. If you can’t hide your cords, you can at least organize them and make it look a lot neater.
You should also take the time to label each of them so that you know exactly what they go to when you inevitably have to unplug something later on. This will make it a lot easier in the long run.
Turn Old Tech into Decorative Pieces
One of the best things about technology is that it is continuously evolving and making old things obsolete. Whether you have old CDs, circuit boards, or video game controllers lying around, they have one thing in common – they’re not useful to you anymore in their current state.
However, they do suit your geeky aesthetic, so you can use them for all kinds of crafts – whether you make coasters out of the CDs or use the circuit board as a clock or photo frame.
You can also use shadowboxes or glass frames to turn them into display pieces. There are all sorts of ideas on Pinterest if you are not sure what to do with your miscellaneous tech.
This helps you to declutter your space without throwing anything away.
Slim Down Your Keychain with KeySmart Pro
You are a high tech family. There's no reason you should have a bowl of bulky keys by your front door. Instead, invest in a KeySmart Pro.
Introducing KeySmart Pro
KeySmart Pro is a super-compact key holder. Not only does it allow you to track lost keys on a handy app on your phone, but it also has a flashlight and bottle opener too.
Easy to Set Up
KeySmart Pro allows you to locate your missing keys on a map using the free Tile™ app. I found it super easy to set up too.
All you do is download the Tile™ app and register after selecting KeySmart Pro as the device you will be using. Then you simply press the 'tile' button on your KeySmart, and the app will activate it.
From there, you just make sure the location services are enabled on your smartphone, and you are good to go.
You'll be able to see your KeySmart Pro on a map, and if you ever lose it, simply press ‘find' in the app, and a happy tune will start playing. I love the fact that if you press the 'tile' button twice on your KeySmart, it'll make your phone ring.
Works Because of Bluetooth
Remember, this all works by using Bluetooth, meaning its range is limited (about 30 feet). You can't have the KeySmart Pro too far away from your phone.
However, say you lose your keys when you are out for a walk but don't realize it until you're home.
When you go to ‘find' your keys in the app, you'll be able to see the last place your KeySmart Pro was located. If you still can't find them, you can mark your KeySmart Pro as lost in the app, and it will silently ping other Tile™ users trying to locate your device. If one of those other Tile™ users are within range of your device, it will secretly send your device's location to your app. Pretty neat, huh?
I can't tell you how often someone in this house is misplacing their keys or phone. This is definitely a must-have product for our home!
Light Up Your World with LEDs
If you’re looking to light up your home, LEDs are a great way to do this without adding a lot of heat and electrical usage in your home. It’s also a very fun way to add color to your home!
Buy Geeky Art!
No matter whether your family members are just tech geeks or if they like all kinds of video games or television shows, there are all kinds of art out there for the things they are fans of. It’s very easy to find art online or in stores to help brighten up your home.
Putting a print or poster in a simple, inexpensive frame makes it look less like a teenager’s dorm room and more like the home of someone who cares for their decorations.
Add USB outlets
Chances are, your family has a lot of devices that use USB ports to charge. You can update your current outlets to include USB ports without much of an expense so that you don’t have cords crisscrossing your floor whenever your family needs to charge their phones.
Everyone will be grateful for it!
Use Open Shelves to Display Your Geekery
We spend a lot of money on geeky products like movie collectibles and other figurines. They shouldn’t be languishing in boxes – they should be admired!
Floating shelves are a great way to make sure that you can display the items you buy and love without using up precious floor space.
Keysmart Pro allows you to locate your keys. I can’t tell you how much I love that! Thanks for sharing!
It definitely comes in handy for someone who loses their keys all the time
I definitely like the idea of hiding the cords! I hate seeing all those cords going in twenty directions, lol. It drives me bonkers.
I agree. Seeing cords everywhere annoys me
I could really use something like this! Thanks for sharing!
