It’s that time of the year when everybody starts decorating their homes with colorful lights and scented candles to create that magical atmosphere for Christmas. Decorating your home is the first step in spreading holiday cheer.
The living room is usually the heart of the house, and it must have the right Christmas decorations!
So, to make sure you celebrate the festive season in style, here's a guide to help you decorate your home for Christmas.
Choose a Christmas Color Scheme
Choosing the right color scheme can be difficult, especially if you want to decorate your rooms differently. Usually, the colors that people choose most for Christmas decorations are green, red, gold, silver, or white.
These are classic choices that look extremely elegant, but this year, people chose new color options, including black. Interior decoration designers suggest using a mix of glossy colors and sparkly black ornaments for the Christmas Tree.
Another popular color is cashmere brown. It matches beautifully with other colors, such as gold and pearl creams. This option looks very elegant and classy.
Curtains, Couch, & Fireplace
An excellent option to get into the holiday spirit is to change the curtains in your house, or at least the ones in your living room. If you don’t want to invest too much in buying curtains, use the ones you already have and decorate them with Christmas cheer.
You have many options for this, from small Christmas decorations to hand-made ones that will give a bit of originality. Ask your kids to help with the decorations too. They tend to become more creative and excited when it comes to holidays when Santa Claus is involved 😉
A new blanket with a Christmas theme on the couch will change the whole feel of the room. You can choose, for example, green, red, or gold colors that match the rest of the decorations. Or, stick with fun Christmas characters.
And, why not throw a few assorted pillows in different Christmas shapes on the couch too?
Attach a few Christmas sacks to the fireplace where you can place gifts for your loved ones, or just use them as a decoration.
Remember, every little detail matters. They all add to the Christmas feel!
Christmas Centerpiece Ideas
New tablecloth linens with cute Christmas drawings on them will give a cheerful tone to the house. On top of the table, you can place fir branches, candles decorated with bows, and small Christmas figurines.
Also, Christmas-themed napkins add a nice touch too.
A few candles placed on a platter, surrounded by pinecones and artificial snow, will give sparkle to the table as well.
Decorating the Living Room for Christmas
What’s your favorite area to decorate first? Maybe you choose to begin with the front yard, setting up lighted Christmas trees, Rudolph, different sets of figurines, and big lights around the house.
Or, maybe you head straight to the living room, which is the place you spend most of the time with your loved ones and start on the tree.
There are a lot of ways you can make every corner of the living room fun and festive. Just stick with one theme and go with it.
Use Gold Christmas Lights and Ornaments
Using warm gold-colored Christmas lights or ornaments will create a cozy and glamorous scheme. Everything will shine with a festive ambiance with these caramel colors and sparkly golds.
It will create a warm and cozy environment for your family and friends where you can relax and enjoy these magical moments of Christmas together.
Get Your Friends and Family Involved in Christmas Decorating
How about a Christmas party at your house? Prepare the mulled wine, gingerbread, cinnamon-scented candles, a playlist with Christmas songs, and invite your friends to decorate your home.
You’ll have a lot of fun together and definitely inspire them to get into the Christmas spirit.
Vintage Christmas Decoration Ideas
If you love vintage decorations, there are plenty of ideas on how to decorate your home. You can use your childhood figurines, posters, stuffed animals, and many other Christmas decorations.
The charming ambiance will embrace every person with a magical aura.
Christmas Market is an excellent place to buy vintage Christmas decorations if you don't have any of your own.
The Christmas Tree
Everybody wants to decorate the perfect Christmas tree with ornaments and lights that are stylishly arranged. Setting a theme before you buy the decorations will help you have a clearer idea of how to decorate your Christmas tree.
Make sure everything is well-balanced and matches your style.
And, don’t forget the Christmas tree is the main attraction of your home.
Create a Christmas Decorating Budget
When you think of Christmas, what elements come first into your mind? Scented candles, lights, little stars and snowflakes, gingerbread, cinnamon smell, or ornaments?
Also, it’s important to choose from the beginning what colors are going to be the main focus.
When you have a clear image of what you want your home to look like for Christmas, create a budget that can withstand it. Remember, you can find beautiful decorations at low prices in discount stores or online too.
Let your imagination play and bring back that energy you had during your childhood. Decorate your home in a magical way that even Santa wouldn't want to miss!
It’s usually difficult to embrace Christmas decorations without having the usual tacky fare. These suggestions are great, and I will definitely be using some of them this year!
That’s true – Christmas can sometimes look tacky with the wrong decor items but usually, I think it’s just a fun time of year. I say go with whatever you like and forget about what other people think
I tend to go back and forth when it comes to choosing a color scheme for the tree. Some years I go with gold or silver or blue, but sometimes I just get the urge to do the traditional red and green, lol.
I’m typically a traditional and just use a mix of ornaments but no real color theme for the tree
I think a new tablecloth could really set off and freshen the whole occasion!
Yes, it could. It’s a great addition to all the other Christmas stuff
These are great tips. I really didn’t decorate much this year.
Why didn’t you decorate much this Christmas?
