Fighting germs is more important than ever.
As businesses reopen and people get back to work, everyone should be well-equipped with the correct information to fight germs and viruses.
In workplaces where people share desks, bathrooms, and equipment, sickness can spread at lightning speed.
Don’t let COVID-19 and other viruses keep you from going back to work. Here’s how you can avoid germs in the office:
You collect more than a paycheck at work. To keep germs in check and avoid illness, keep these tips in mind!Click To TweetReorganize your workspace
Social distancing is the best way to prevent the spread of viruses.
The most crucial step to avoiding germs is reorganizing workstations to ensure the proper distance between workers.
According to the CDC, workstations or desks should be placed at least 6 feet apart. Employees should also observe social distancing in cafeterias, conference rooms, break rooms, and other areas where workers commonly go.
Frequently clean touched surfaces (disinfect a few times a day)
Cleaning with soap and water is the best way to eliminate germs. You can also use bleach and water solution or commercial disinfectants to clean surfaces.
Objects and surfaces frequently touched, such as doorknobs, desks, telephones, printing machines, computers, and keyboards, should be disinfected as often as possible (ideally, before and after use).
Keep sanitizer at your desk.
Just as you want to keep surfaces clean, you also want to keep your hands germ-free all the time.
Stocking up on sanitizers and alcohol (at least 70% solution) is the way to go. They’re also a life-saver when you can’t wash your hands with soap and water as often as you want to.
Right now, we are loving Auntie Dolores CBD Hand Sanitizer.
In case you didn't know, CBD can come in many forms, including oil, pet treats, capsules, topicals, and — yes — even in hand sanitizer. Auntie Dolores Hand Sanitizer has 20 mg CBD and is a citrus mint scent.
It's an 80% alcohol solution making it nice and potent, but you may be asking yourself why CBD?
Containing Organic Full Spectrum Hemp CBD Oil as well as coconut oil makes this hand sanitizer extremely moisturizing. Meanwhile, other hand sanitizers can dry out your hands quite a bit.
The hand sanitizer spout pours out at just the right speed, not too fast or slow, and we found the scent to be very pleasant.
As you drip Auntie Dolores' Hand Sanitizer on your hands you first get a slight hint of mint that quickly transforms into a lovely lemon scent.
We are big fans of lemon here, so, no complaints, and it's a trillion times better than some of those awful hand sanitizers they have at entrances of stores these days.
Being 1.5 oz, it fits nicely within your workspace or even in a drawer without taking up too much room. Then, when it's time to go home you can easily put it in your pocket or throw it in your purse.
It's the perfect desk accessory during these crazy times, for sure!
Use disinfecting wipes.
Disinfecting wipes make a quick and easy option for cleaning cellphones, laptop/computer screens, and desks. These wipes contain either alcohol or non-alcohol-based disinfectants that can effectively kill germs.
They are also perfect for disinfecting small surfaces, doorknobs, touchpads, and handles. Make sure to dispose of used wipes properly.
Properly wash your hands (and avoid touching your face)
Hand-washing is essential no matter where you work.
Our hands are the primary carriers of germs. We spread viruses and bacteria as we touch one object after another. Not practicing proper handwashing can spark contamination, increasing the risk of illnesses in your workplace.
Handwashing is very simple. But many people do it incorrectly. If you are the manager, make sure your staff is well-informed by sending out information to their emails or posting handwashing guidelines around your office.
Here's how to wash hands properly:
- Wet hands.
- Create a lather.
- Rub hands together.
- Rub both sides of your hands.
- Interlink your fingers.
- Cup your fingers.
- Wash the thumbs.
- Clean palms with your fingers.
Promote mask-wearing at work
Make sure everyone – from the sup down to the frontline officers are wearing masks. Besides posting reminders in every room or area, consider investing in a biometric time clock that automatically detects temperature and mask-wearing.
These clocks feature face recognition technology for mask detection and help pinpoint potentially sick employees. Additionally, these machines can identify registered users in less than a second.
Make sure the office is getting properly ventilated
Proper ventilation is essential in maintaining good air quality in buildings and commercial facilities.
If your company closed for a while due to the pandemic, review the construction startup guide by the ASHRAE.
Whenever possible, open doors and windows to increase the circulation of air in your office.
Educate others
Avoiding germs in the workplace is a group effort. If not everyone is in sync with the standard health and safety protocols, the risk of illnesses will always be high.
So spread the word. Feel free to share this article. Tell your colleagues at work to practice good hygiene habits and cleanliness. Let’s make our workplaces safe and healthy.
Wash hands then sanitize and use something to touch door knob. Money is real dirty, make sure to clean hands and where it’s been and design one spot for it
Very true money is very dirty and most people forget that
I make sure I use sanitizer before I touch a grocery store cart. I clean the cart handle before touching it. I also sanitize my car steeringwheel everytime I get in the car.
I feel you. Carts in stores are covered in germs and you are def doing your best at avoiding them with those practices.
I stay as germ-free as possible by frequently and thoroughly washing my hands. I also try very hard to avoid touching my face as much as possible.
That’s a good tip to keep germs away! A lot of people forget not to touch their faces.
I just wash my hands when needed. Also, we use sprays like Lysol when bringing home groceries or other things. Thanks and God bless!
I’m so happy I can finally buy Lysol again! I like spraying light switches and door knobs to help keep germs away.
I sanitize and wash my hands as much as I can! Germs are yucky!
Both great ways to avoid germs!
I wash my hands and use hand sanitizer. I also clean my scanner when i start working and when i put it away.
That’s great that you do your due diligence and clean your scanner at work
I wash my hands frequently
Washing your hands often is a great way to keep germs away
We try to stay germ free by wearing masks indoors, even though we are vaccinated, we constantly use and keep hand sanitizer around in places where we can’t get to soap and water like the car, in my purse, etc. We also clean household surfaces constantly. I’ve always been a bit of a clean-ness nut but now more so because of the pandemic.
I’m a nut too!! I’m so glad to hear you still wear a mask to protect yourself from germs despite being vaccinated. I wish more people would do that!
I stay germ free by washing my hands everytime I use the bathroom and wearing a mask in public.
It’s great to hear that you still use a mask to keep germs away! I know a lot of people aren’t since mandates have been lifted in a lot of areas
Well here in Myrtle Beach South Carolina not all mandates have been lifted .
We are so careful wearing mask and gloves when having to do things where others have touched items like our foods that are delivered. We carry hand sanitizer as well to use when we take off our gloves so there clean too.
I remember early in the pandemic when my husband would spray down all mail because of germs
I don’t touch anything I don’t have to touch when I am out in public. Of course, it’s impossible to stay germ-free, really, so I wash my hands frequently and wear hand sanitizer, too.
I try to do the same things to stay away from germs!
I would be really happy about it I used it in the pandemic but I’m vaccinated now I still wash my hands and all that stuff but I don’t live on the sanitizer I use it sometimes though.
I was big on hand sanitizer and being germ free before it was popular lol
I don’t think anyone can truly be germ free, but personally I keep hand sanitizer bottles everywhere. I keep them in my car, on the living room end table, my purse, my computer desk…and the list goes on lol.
Haha, you just like me. I keep hand sanitizer in every room too!
I use cleaning wipes on everything that comes in the house. We wash our hands a lot. Need more hand sanitiser so this is a great giveaway!
I use a lot of cleaning wipes to keep germs away too!
Great information. I just want to add that it’s a good idea to keep extra hand sanitizer and masks in your car/purse just in case.
Totally agree – we also have extras of those in the car too!
These are great tips! I don’t work anymore. A lot of the same rules apply though. After over a year, people and even children, pretty much know the drill. It is definitely a good idea to carry a 1.5 oz, bottle of hand sanitizer! Auntie Dolores’ formula sounds exceptional! It moisturizes and leaves a decent aroma of lemon 🍋 behind. My grandkids have these on their school supplies list. We are all in the together- so we can all beat this together!! I can’t wait!! I shared on Pinterest, Facebook, & Twitter. Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you so much for sharing! Yes, COVID-19 has helped a lot of us be more hygienic to keep germs away. A silver lining.
Constantly washing hands at home. I have a spray handsanitizer in my purse and in the car use each when returning to the car.
We do the same things to try to keep germs at bay
I always have done this for years. I do not have children but I am the oldest of 7 an in past years to help my siblings I would help take care of their children when they were younger. Always have to be on the ready.
You and me both. I’ve always wanted to keep germs at bay
Thanks for all the tips! I am always cleaning.
Cleaning a lot is a surefire way to avoid germs
We keep germ free by washing our hand properly when we enter our home. We keep hand sanitizer and disinfectant at work and use it often. I keep sanitizer in the car also.
Sounds like you are doing all you can to stay germ-free!
Working in healthcare I am a constant handwasher and have lotion in my bag to combat the dryness
I know what you mean – I feel like I am always cleaning my hands to avoid germs.
I was already a germophobe but this past year ..ive really become paranoid. Thank you for the tips!
haha You and me both – the pandemic made me want to avoid germs even more
