young girls jumping on bed: How to Select Childrens Bedroom Furniture They'll Love

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t value having their own space – and children are no exception. For many children, their bedrooms represent spaces that are exclusively theirs and sanctums from the stresses of the outside world. As such, parents who redo a child’s bedroom would be wise to consider several considerations. How you approach this task can mean the difference between a room that facilitates relaxation and one that only serves to heighten stress. So, when choosing childrens bedroom furniture, consider the following factors.

A guide on how to choose furniture that will make your child’s bedroom both functional and stylish. Click To Tweet

Use Room Dividers in Shared Spaces

It’s easy to see why most children aren’t keen on sharing bedrooms with their siblings. After all, it’s hard to view a space as your own if someone else’s belongings and furnishings are all over it.

However, many households have no way around children sharing bedrooms. Depending on how many kids you have and how many rooms your residence contains, your children may have no choice but to double up – or possibly even triple up – on the bedroom front.

Luckily, even in a shared bedroom, there are ways to ensure everyone has their own space. For example, investing in a good room divider can give your kids a makeshift wall and turn one room into two. This will help prevent kids from feeling as if their personal space is being infringed upon by any siblings with whom they share a bedroom.

Selecting a bed for a child’s room

When selecting a suitable bed for a child’s room, there are many factors you’ll need to consider. The child’s age, preferences, safety levels, and the amount of free space are among the things you’ll need to think about when shopping around for the right bed.

For instance, if there’s limited space to spare, a loft bed may help prevent the room from becoming cramped. Similarly, bunk beds are great childrens bedroom furniture pieces for maximizing space if you’re dealing with a shared room situation.

You should also feature mattress size and quality prominently in your thinking. Given how expensive a good mattress can be, you may be tempted to seek out the cheapest possible options. And while there’s nothing inherently wrong with frugality, purchasing a subpar mattress negatively impacts a child’s sleep quality. So, the next time you find yourself shopping for a kids mattress, make sure to consider size, quality, and comfort level.

Include Study Space to Do Homework

Children need to have a quiet place to study and do their homework. Without such a space, concentration on schoolwork can prove very difficult.

Additionally, if you have a packed household, expecting your kids to do their homework in the kitchen, dining room, or other high-traffic areas is likely to prove inconvenient to them and you.

That being the case, every child’s bedroom should contain a designated study space. Among other childrens bedroom furniture, this area should include a spacious desk to accommodate computers, books, and other study materials comfortably.

Furthermore, parents dealing with a shared room should ensure each child has an individual desk – provided the room has sufficient space. The older kids get, the more critical study space becomes, so if your child has started school – or will soon be starting school – their bedroom should feature such an area.

Play Space

Bedrooms with ample play space are sure to meet the approval of kids bursting with energy and imagination. Playspace is essential when creating bedrooms for small children.

So, space permitting, ensure your child’s bedroom has a designated play area. In addition to housing various toys, this area should have enough space for kids to move around and expend energy freely.

Final Thoughts

We all need spaces that are uniquely our own. Regardless of age, few things are liable to instill more inner calm than personal spaces. Such spaces are particularly important to children, who often find the majority of space in their homes dominated by their parents.

Although it may seem daunting, selecting childrens bedroom furniture they’ll love doesn’t have to be complicated. Just take your time, ask them what they want, and let them help you choose. They’ll be excited to show off their new room and will love spending hours relaxing in their cozy bed.
