How to Stay Focused and Productive at Work

Regardless of whether you work at a set location or work from home in the kitchen, several distractions within your vicinity can affect your overall level of productivity. At a set location, this may entail nearby conversions, which can disrupt your focus.

And at home, you may even face a greater degree of distractions such as children, smartphone usage, the television, and more.

Working at home can present a set of challenges as far as distractions go. Here are several things to consider when it comes to keeping your focus when you work at home.

Here are some small steps to reduce distractions and protect your well-being when working remotely! Click To Tweet

1) Theanine Can Reduce Stress

Theanine is an amino acid that is only found in green and black teas. Studies show that it can promote relaxation and calm. Several studies have also shown that it can help to alleviate stress and anxiety.

Besides the fact that it is one of the only known substances that can easily cross the blood-brain barrier, it potentiates the effects of caffeine. Meaning it can make the cognitive benefits of caffeine even more profound.

Many providers sell supplements that consist of only theanine and caffeine. Theanine can help to boost your cognitive performance as well as to increase mental focus.

2) Make a List to Focus and Get Work Done

While this may seem unimportant, research shows that you have a 30% higher chance of achieving a goal if you write them down.

If you establish a list of work-related tasks that you need to complete before the end of the day, the to-do list can help you to remain focused as you work. It can also serve as a starting point when you initially get up in the morning.

Lastly, the list can also serve as a daily reminder of the various things you need to complete before the end of the day.

3) Your Home Office Space Can Improve Your Productivity Levels

Sometimes, all you need is a little space and distance so that you can stay focused. Establishing a neat and organized office space can significantly improve your productivity levels.

When choosing a good spot, focus on a room that provides an abundance of natural light. It also helps if you choose a space far away from distractions such as the TV or kitchen.

4) Reducing Media Consumption Can Help You Stay Focused on Your Goals

Based on the fact that you become your own supervisor when you work from home, it's easy to check your social media several times a day.

As you scan your social media profiles, it becomes even easier for you to get distracted by an influx of news articles and trending topics.

As a society, we have developed a profound love for our handheld devices because it always seems as if something new is always happening somewhere in the world. Unfortunately, these constant checks will lower your overall productivity level and cause you to lose focus.

5) Taking Scheduled Breaks Can Help You Focus on Work at Home

According to the University of Illinois, taking a break is essential for performing at optimum capacity. This is especially true when it comes to doing lengthy tasks that require many hours.

When it comes to establishing a scheduled break system, there are several routes you can take. The general consensus amongst the medical community is that you should take a break every 90 minutes.

Other break techniques like the Pomodoro Technique proclaim that every 25 minutes is ideal. Meanwhile, a group of Latvian companies gives their workers a break every 52 minutes.

The frequency of how often you should take breaks comes down to the complexity behind your work-related tasks. The critical thing to remember is that they should occur at a specific time every day.

6) Know When to End Your Work Day

Many people who work from home falsely believe that it enables them to have a much better work-life balance. But regardless of where you are, work is work.

Irrespective of how you may feel about work, it needs to get done. And, more importantly, you need to have your own personal life outside of work.

When you fail to establish a barrier between your personal and work life, it will feel like you're working all the time. This can lead to burnout, which will affect your level of productivity.

Therefore, when it comes to remaining mentally fit and energized to take care of your work tasks, you need to know when to end your workday and separate your personal life from your work life.
