It is a time in life when a combination of rapid physical changes and hormonal fluctuations makes for a rollercoaster of emotions. This means is a time when your child needs a calm and loving parent more than ever.
That is, of course, easier said than done when faced with behavior that can often seem selfish, offensive, and at times even aggressive.

Any parent of a teenager knows, teens can be moody, distant, and defiant at times. Here are some of the most common teen troubles!Click To TweetTeenage problems like excessive screen time
Computers and technology are a huge part of modern life, which is no different for today’s children.
However, problems can arise when teenagers spend too much time in front of screens and away from the “real world.”
Setting limits or banning tech altogether can actually backfire, meaning your child will want to spend even more time on them.
Try to get to the root of why they are happier in the virtual world and suggest ways you can spend some quality time together or help them get involved in alternative clubs and activities.
Smoking issues facing youth
Teens can see smoking as a way to show they are no longer children, as they see it as a grown-up thing to do.
Try not to be confrontational if you find out your teenager has tried smoking. Instead, try to understand the reasons why. It might be they have tried it and hated it, but if you approach it the wrong way, you might find they continue to do it just to show their independence.
If they have developed a habit, nicotine replacement therapy might be helpful.
Nowadays, vaping can be seen as just as “cool” to a teen, and choosing a nicotine-free vape juice may be a helpful tool in freeing them of the nicotine addiction.
Teenage social problems and mental health
Mental health problems are on the rise amongst teenagers. These can be brought on for many reasons, but common triggers include bullying, low self-esteem, and exam stress.
Depression in teens can present itself in different ways. For instance, sadness, frustration, anger, feelings of worthlessness, sensitivity, and trouble concentrating.
Your child mustn't feel alone when dealing with their worries. So, it is essential not to make yourself an enemy to them. Keep channels of communication open and really listen to what they have to say without judgment.
Work with them to find solutions to their concerns. For example, make sure you do not pile on too much pressure when it comes to grades. You can also find ways to lift their self-image and if they are experiencing bullying, tackle it in a way they feel comfortable with.
