How to Teach Kids About Sustainable Living

Children today will be the main pillars in the fight against climate change. You must teach your children the main concepts of sustainable living from an early age.

Change your bad habits before teaching your kids because learning by example has a bigger impact than just telling them to do things. When your kids see that you are doing your best to change the planet Earth in a better way, they will follow.

Recycling is not something that is done once a year but something you should do every day. Only consistency will make it a lifelong habit that will make the whole family feel proud!

Here are some tips to help you teach your kids how to be sustainable and leave a minimal carbon footprint behind.

Spend some time in nature

Children who are lucky enough to grow up in a natural environment have a greater predisposition to be mentally healthier when they grow up.

There is a long list of benefits that result from being in nature, such as reducing the risk of developing certain diseases.

Still, the most important thing is that your kids know how we can reduce plastic waste and make our planet a better place for living.

Teach your children how to recycle

Do you recycle at home? Do children help you with that?

Young children are full of enthusiasm and absorb everything like a dry sponge while also simply enjoying being involved.

In my opinion, whenever you expect something from someone, it is better to explain to him why it is important and what is achieved with it. By recycling 1 ton of paper, we save 17 adult trees and 25000 liters of water.

Set specific chores

Every child needs to be given chores. For example, children can take turns sorting plastic, paper, glass, and organic waste items, as well as emptying trash cans.

At the same time, make it a rule that everyone must check the label to see if it can be recycled before throwing it away.

Read books about sustainable living

First, show them the book cover and talk about the picture. Encourage your child to turn the pages of the book. Talk about each picture.

Have them explain what is going on. Ask what photo they like the most and why.

If the answer is one word, ask sub-questions and specific questions. For example, if your kid sees a picture of the ozone layer, ask them why it is so important.

You’re doing all you can to live a more sustainable lifestyle. But how do you carry those lessons through to the next generation? Here's how! Click To Tweet

Teach your children what to eat

The best possible food is certainly organically grown food, which contributes to the preservation of nature and contains significantly smaller amounts of chemical substances used in conventional production.

It is important to ensure your food's quality and create positive eating habits for your kids.

It is up to you to include organic foods in your menu, especially if you have children because what you eat, your little ones will eat as well. Monkey see. Monkey do.

How do you help the planet?
