dining room table with chandelier: 5 Tips for Incorporating Chandeliers into your Home Decor

So, you are looking to buy a chandelier but might be a bit unsure where to begin or what factors to consider when choosing the right one to purchase. Here are five tips for incorporating chandeliers into your home decor if this is the case.

Chandeliers should match the room’s color scheme and theme

It would be best if you chose a chandelier that seems like an expression of the room’s aesthetic – that is do not choose one that doesn’t match the feel of the space. For example, choosing one that is far too grand and classy for a relaxing family living space can make the room’s vibe feel mismatched and awkward.

Consider the colors and textures which will shine and stand out in the space. Whether it be crystal, metal, wood, or vintage-inspired chandeliers you are searching for, remember your space’s textures, hues, tones, and other design elements.

Choose the right size suitable for your room

It might be overpowering to install a chandelier that is too large for the room, and if it is too little, it may be uninspiring. Getting the size, proportions, and balance right is crucial for the feel of the room, so you must get this step right.

There are numerous competing views on the sizing of chandeliers. However, professionals generally agree that there is a mathematical model that can assist you in finding the ideal-sized chandelier for your space.

Simply add up the room dimensions in feet. Then, use the total number, but in inches, for the size of your chandelier. In other words, it should be around one-twelfth of the size of your room.

Carefully consider where you locate your chandelier

It may seem simple, but the positioning choice of where you place your chandelier can change the look and feel you’re going for with your room. You could either go for the classic, centralized approach or place your chandelier more uniquely.

For example, place your chandelier above the dinner table if you want a traditional-style dining room to complement the large dining table. If you’re going to go for an unconventional look, position it slightly off-center.

Choose the right lighting color and temperature

Sure, you might have chosen the ideal chandelier for you and decided on the perfect place to hang it, but the actual lighting and bulb can make or break the feel and appearance of both the room and the chandelier.

To alter the appearance of each room’s lighting, you may consider a variety of lighting temperatures. The color temperature of every light bulb is totally different. Color temperature can significantly influence the ambiance of a space, even if it is so subtle that it can’t be detected at first glance.

Keep in mind the height of your ceiling

The room’s height is another important consideration when choosing a chandelier. Chandeliers that hang low and drop from the ceiling are ideal for spaces with a higher ceiling than usual. As you might expect, areas with low ceilings will work better with chandelier types that are shorter and more compact.

So, there you have it – 5 tips for incorporating chandeliers into the decoration of your home, elevating your design without overpowering your existing decor.

Do you know how far a chandelier should hang from the ceiling?

I like pink lighting in a chandelier, it gives so much warmth to room. Ours doesn’t hang very far, as we are in an apartment with relitively low ceilings. Easier to clean, too.

I’m the opposite. I prefer daylight LEDs in my lightbulbs and chandeliers.
