Winter is here, and that means cold weather is here to stay. Protect your pipes from freezing with these easy tips! Click To Tweet

Use Pipe Insulation

One of the best ways to keep your pipes from freezing is through insulation. If you have any exposed pipes, be sure to insulate them with foam or newspaper. This will help keep the heat in and will keep pipes from freezing.

Similar to how some roofs have a cladding system, there is also such thing as pipe cladding. This enhances your pipe's durability and is like a protective layer that can help keep your pipes warm.

A Thermal Wrap Can Prevent Your Pipes From Freezing

Unless you have geothermal heat pumps harvesting heat from the ground, we also suggest using a thermal wrap to prevent your pipes from freezing.

A thermal wrap is a piece of material that wraps around your pipes and helps to retain the heat. This can be a great way to protect your pipes during wintertime.

Let Water Drip

If you live in an area that gets particularly cold, you may want to consider leaving your faucets dripping overnight. This will help keep the water flowing and help prevent your pipes from freezing.

Monitor the Weather

Another important thing you can do to prevent your pipes from freezing is to monitor the weather. If you know that a cold front is coming in, take precautions to protect your pipes.

For example, you can let your faucets drip so that water continues to flow through the pipes. You can also open up cabinet doors under sinks so that more heat will reach the pipes.

Keep Your House Warm

One of the best ways to keep your pipes from freezing is by keeping your house warm.

Ensure that all of your rooms are heated evenly, and try not to have any drafts near your plumbing. If you can keep your home at a comfortable temperature, you'll be less likely to have problems with frozen pipes.

Open Doors and Windows

If you're trying to keep your home warm, it's crucial to open the doors and windows occasionally. This will allow fresh air to circulate in the house and help heat it.

Additionally, it's a good idea to run fans throughout the house. The fans will spread the heated air and help keep everyone warm.

Check Your Pipes Regularly

It's essential to check your pipes regularly during wintertime. This way, you can catch any potential problems before they turn into bigger issues.

Be sure to check pipes in crawl spaces, basements, and attics. If you notice any water leakage, be sure to address the problem as soon as possible.

Conclusion

Winter is coming, and with it, the risk of frozen pipes. Take a few minutes to follow these easy tips, and you can avoid the hassle and expense of a broken pipe. Remember, prevention is always easier than repair!

These are really good tips for how to keep your pipes from freezing! We don’t get a lot of snow or super low temps here, so last year when we had a blizzard there was a lot of burst pipes. The plumbers were kept busy for months! Luckily, my dad was smart and protected his pipes from it.

Yes, we had a lot of issues here in Texas last year as well. This winter has been much better so far with way less freezing.
