kid electronics

One of the best things about being a work-at-home mom is the ability to schedule most of your projects around your kids. While this is true most of the time, there will be plenty of days where you have to (a) call a client at a specific time, (b) focus on replying to several urgent emails or (c) turn in work by deadline.

When A, B or C all pop up in your workday, and you really need some uninterrupted time, it’s vital to have several things in your WAHM arsenal to keep your kiddos happy, occupied and most importantly, quiet. Fortunately, thanks to the love that all kids have for electronic devices, it's usually pretty easy to carve out an hour or so here and there for work. Check out the following types of kid-proof technology that can stand up to the occasional drop and sticky PB&J fingers and still keep going:

ThinkPad T450

While kids love to use laptops, all laptops are not created equally. Some are too heavy for children to carry, and others don’t have the rugged toughness that will stand up to a gaming kindergartner.

If you are in the market for a new laptop that you can share with your kids, Lenovo has a terrific selection of affordable, durable and lightweight laptop models. For example, the ThinkPad T450 is thin and lightweight but also incredibly sturdy, making it an ideal choice for kids to use while you are busy working.

This model also features an internal battery along with an external one, which means you can change a dead battery quickly and easily without having to turn the machine off in the middle of a movie or computer game. As a bonus, this laptop will run for up to 17 hours on a charge, so you won’t have to worry about knocks at the door during your important phone call and a little voice telling you, “Mom, the laptop just died. Can you help me?”

Fire HD Kids Edition Tablet

When a manufacturer actually adds the words “Kids Edition” to its product, you can rest assured that the device will stand up to whatever your kiddos will dish out. This is the case with the Fire HD tablet.

As Heavy notes, this tablet from Amazon is pretty much the same as the regular Fire HD tablet, except it comes with a protective bumper case in a choice of three colors, as well as a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which includes a whopping 5,000-plus kid-friendly educational apps, books, shows and games.

Instead of skimping on power like some kids’ tablets do, the Fire HD Kids Edition has a strong quad-core processor, an HD 1024 x 600 display and a front/rear facing camera that will help to keep your little ones busy taking selfies with the dog while you are on deadline.

Kid-proof Case for Your iPhone

If your kiddo is in love with your smartphone but you are understandably nervous about handing over a spendy and somewhat fragile device to a curious preschooler, the Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Case will help set your mind at ease.

The rugged “Apptivity Case” lets even older babies and toddlers enjoy apps and games while keeping your iPhone or iTouch safe. The case has big handles that are easy for little hands to grasp and will keep your smartphone safe from apple juice spills.

How do you protect your cell phone or tablet from kid mishaps?
