4 Frequently Overlooked Ways You Can Keep Your Lawn Looking Pristine in Winter

Just about every homeowner has been there – your lawn looks green, healthy, and pristine during the summer months, only to start looking dull, gray, and dry come wintertime. Seasonal Lawn Care is an often overlooked aspect of yard maintenance that not too many homeowners know about, even if they otherwise care about keeping their lawn looking great.

Fortunately, you don’t have to resign yourself to a dead, downer lawn until springtime rolls around again. There are some lesser-known ways you can keep your lawn in top shape even when the temperatures take a plunge.

Undoubtedly, the elements can affect your lawn’s health during winter. Here are a few tips for winterizing your lawn so it can stay in top shape!!Click To Tweet

1. Focus on Lawn Care and Prep Before Winter Arrives

Perhaps the biggest part of having a healthy lawn in the winter is taking care of your lawn well before December comes around. The best way to ensure your yard makes it through winter is to start looking after it meticulously while the weather’s still pleasant.

This means pulling out weeds, adding in soil and fertilizer where needed, trimming overgrowth, and more.

2. Consider Planting More Evergreens in Your Yard

One aspect of winter lawn care that’s hard to get around is that your lawn simply won’t be able to keep its vibrant green color through the winter months.

While this is normal, you can complement the lawn and add a pop of color by planting evergreens and other seasonal plants strategically throughout the yard. Paired with a nicely mowed and trimmed lawn, this can give the effect of a richer, greener space!

3. Clean Off Your Lawn Before Snowstorms and Keep an Eye on Weather Conditions

One facet of winter lawn care is weather preparedness, which generally entails regularly checking the forecast for signs of upcoming storms. If you prep your lawn before a snowstorm hits, you’ll give it the best chance at making it through in good shape.

Clean any sticks or other items from the yard before a storm comes through, and be sure to mow the lawn before significant weather events as well. This will make post-storm cleanup that much easier!

4. Outsource Some Tasks to Lawn Professionals When Needed

It’s important to keep in mind that not all tasks have to be done on the weekend or squeezed in between your other house chores. If you’re just too busy or aren’t comfortable taking on all the lawn work yourself, you can outsource some tasks to lawn care professionals on an as-needed basis.

You may already have some experience with this concept if you hire someone to mow your lawn during the summer, for example, so you can adapt the model to the wintertime to save on stress. For instance, you can hire someone to fertilize dead spots and plant seasonal greens.

Lawn care is a critical part of keeping your property looking great, but the winter months can be unforgiving if you don’t prepare for them early. Thankfully, it’s more than possible to keep your lawn in good shape even in the wintertime if you follow these frequently overlooked care tips.

Have these strategies in your back pocket the next time the seasons start to change, and you could have one of the best-looking winter lawns on the block!

Our lawn isn’t looking too pristine either after the winter storm. I think we need to re-sod it!
