March 5th, 2016 my grandmother celebrated her 83rd birthday. She's doing amazing for 83! You can't keep this woman down. She's always on the go digging up plants or doing some kind of crafty thing. She's often a bit too determined to get things done and more often than not ends up hurting herself. She's one of those people that you have to say “Grandma, get off the roof!”. Yes, the ROOF. A place she definitely shouldn't be!
Well, for her birthday we decided to come over and get some things done for her. Got to try to keep her from doing things that may hurt her. My dad, his wife, and I helped her rake leaves, mow, and do random odd chores around her house.
Before I started on my leaf duty I set up a table with yummy treats and LOTS of ice cold Lipton tea. It's so easy to have a Yard Work Lipton Tea Time Birthday – all you need is Lipton, some treats, and the willpower to roll up your sleeves to get it done.
I picked up some donuts from her favorite place, Shipley Do-Nuts. I had never tried Shipley Do-Nuts before but I have to say they were pretty good. Way better than Dunkin' and almost on par with my favorite Krispy Kreme. I placed them on a cake pedestal with a doily and they looked almost as good as they tasted.
I brewed five different kinds of Lipton teas the day before – Enticing Chai, Pure Green Tea, Stirring Ceylon, Peach Mango, and Berry Hibiscus. Check out the full line-up of Lipton Green, Black and Herbal tea flavors here. Let me tell you each of these teas smell amazing.
As I was unwrapping each tea bag to brew I could smell their lovely scents directly through the boxes and plastic wrap. It smelt SO good! You know you have some high-quality ingredients when their aroma fills your nose without even trying.
Just to make sure everyone had enough tea. I placed extra tea bags in a glass jar. We didn't end up needing them but they helped decorate the table. I love the pop of color they add!
Lipton’s new black and herbal varieties and improved green teas give you a whole new tea experience. They are bold and stimulate all your senses. Here's a coupon for “$0.75 off any 1 Lipton Black, Green, or Herbal 20ct tea” so you can see the difference yourself.
These carafes really show off the brighter, clearer color of the teas and just trust me on the amazing taste and smell. I'm typically not an unsweet tea drinker but these flavors were so amazing I didn't even need sugar. Now that's saying something. I LOVED the Peach Mango! It's super cute its milk bottle too. I love the old timey feel.
In between running back and forth between inside and outside grandma's house we'd take sips of all these amazing, unique tea flavors. They were the perfect yard work thirst quencher! My dad doesn't look too bad after blowing leaves off the roof, does he? I don't really think he should be up there either. He's not getting any younger. They should just hire professionals at this point!
Speaking of my dad, I have one of my earlier memories of him and Lipton tea. When I was a child our yard was, at least, half an acre. It would take him a while to mow so before he'd get started he'd set up a container of sun tea. You know where you place tea bags and water in a container and let the sun do its job. By the time, he was done mowing all he'd have to do is pour it over ice. We'd share some together, it tasted SO good!
Anyway, we had a nice day sweating for grandma. She deserves it. She's such a lovely, sweet woman whom we all adore. Now if we could just calm her down a bit.
I hate hearing the stories she tells about how she hurt herself THIS TIME. In this picture, you can't tell but she scraped up her knee, cut her nose, got a swollen ankle tripping over something. She was doing a tile backsplash in her eat in kitchen area and had made a barricade to block the dogs. She ended up accidentally tripping over it because she was carrying too much stuff and didn't lift her leg up enough. She went face first into the ground. Breaks my heart.
Luckily, my dad, his wife, and uncle come over often to help keep her out of trouble. Bless her heart. I hope I have half her energy and spunk when I'm her age! Happy birthday, grandma!!
Do you know someone like my grandmother?
Hi Krystle, I have great memories of my grandparents drinking their iced tea when I was a kid. Your grandma on the roof comment cracked me up! 🙂
She seriously does things like that. She’s hurt herself falling out of trees. Sigh…
Sounds like a fun way to celebrate her birthday! I wish I had some of her energy!
Wonder I love you writing.this made me want to call my grandma (haven’t called her in for ever #worstgranddaughterEver)
Call her! I’m sure she would just love to hear from you.
I read this post and it reminds me so much of my mo. What is it with the people of that generation? They are feisty (in a good way), dilligent, work-a-holics, amazing women. Great post and a very happy birthday to your grandmother.
I think we all should strive to be just like them!
That sounds just like my grandma who has passed, bless her heart. What a fun way to celebrate her birthday for her.
I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother!
It’s nice to celebrate birthdays with a different flavors of teas…I haven’t tried some these though
Looks like such a fun time. We always bring tea for celebrations. And Lipton is the best!
I agree! When I think of tea Lipton is the first thing that comes to my mind.
Yes, my grandma is the same way. She just keeps going and going!
Let’s hope we are just like them when we are older 🙂
I love all kinds of tea. Enjoyed your story behind the collection and the pictures that went with the description! How fascinating and refreshing!
My grandmother just turned 83 as well! I sure wish I had that donut she’s holding haha! Happy Birthday to her!
Grandma sounds like a rocking woman! I love the carafes of tea. We are big tea drinkers and this gave me some cute ideas.
Happy 83rd Birthday blessings to your Grandma! I hope she is healing well after that fall. She looks terrific and I could tell she was enjoying her birthday treats and teas. 🙂
Thanks! Her ankle was still pretty swollen. The trick is to keep her off of it though 🙂
Im on a diet right now and drinking lots of lipton green tea… but oh my god do I want those cakes.
Maybe have a cheat day and enjoy some. One day won’t hurt 🙂
oh wow this is amazing looks brilliant I am on my way
Aww! Looks like you guys had a wonderful time. Both of my grandmothers are passed on so we are “looking to adopt” one 🙂 They are just a wealth of information and so much fun to be around!
So true! Grandparents know so much. It’s so fun to listen to their stories!
My husband loves tea! So helpful and interesting ideas! Thanks.
I really love Lipton’s herbal teas. perfect for when you just need to calm down and chill!
Yes, Lipton teas are great for relaxing. I’m actually drinking some now 🙂
She looks so lovely at 83! It’s so nice of you guys to do her chores for her during her birthday, it’s a simple yet beautiful way to celebrate it! Thanks for sharing about your day with her! I love the new flavors of Lipton. I’m especially curious about that peach mango!
Thank you! I’ll have to tell her that. She’s one of those woman that won’t leave without lipstick because she says you can’t see her lips otherwise LOL.
happy birthday to your grandma! How awesome! I love the varying styles of tea and the cute way you displayed them It was sooooo cute!!
When it comes to donuts, Grandma knows best! Happy birthday to her and many more! What a fun way to celebrate.
This is so awesome !! I absolutely love how you have the teas set up wow neat !!!!
What a cute party. Looks like you had a lot of fun. I’ve never made more than one flavor tea at a time (other than sweeten and unsweeten), but I think I will next time I have a group of people over.
Having different varieties of tea was nice. There was something for everyone 🙂
Interesting idea to make your own ice tea using tea bags. I am not a fan of cold drinks that should be hot, but I did try Lipton ice tea the bottled version and it was all-right, a bit less sweet for my taste. Happy birthday to your grandma!
Oh, I love cold drinks. The only drinks I mainly drink hot are coffees. Tea I do occasionally but it’s usually iced tea for me. Especially here in hot ole Texas 🙂
What a delightful celebration! Those teas look and sound divine (I too usually put sugar in things like that). Loved this, hope Grandma heals well 🙂
Thanks!! The teas are awesome and not using sugar is a bonus for me. I don’t need the calories anyway. Grandma is doing well. She’s a tough woman!
That is a perfect birthday celebration to me! Those donuts look to die for!
They were SO good!! I just finished them off last night 🙂
