LISTERINE® and Healthy, Heroic Habits

I am no hero. Not even close to one but when it comes to my family I try to encourage healthy habits. It’s just little things. Like making sure they always have a fruit or vegetable with each meal. Not giving soda, junk food, and candy on a regular basis. Desserts only happen after dinner. Getting them involved in sports so they aren’t stuck on Netflix and Minecraft all day. Getting them to take a multivitamin every day.

A healthy habit here and a healthy habit there can go a long way. One healthy habit that my family could improve is oral hygiene. I know, shame on me!

Just a few months ago we found out my eight year old son got his first cavity. To be honest I was kind of surprised it didn’t happen sooner. After all we are a busy family and always on the go. Sometimes we get home so late from some sporting event or practice and are in such a rush to get things ready for the next day and the kids in bed that oral hygiene gets forgotten. As my son would say, “Bad mama!”. I feel like such an awful parent when that happens. Lord knows I don’t want my kids to have a teeth full of fillings!

My son is still freaked out about getting his first cavity drilled on. He keeps asking how much is it going to hurt and all of these questions that I smile and nod about. Remember he’s the child that had to be pinned down by several doctors just to get routine shots. I can only imagine what he’s going to do with a dentist with a drill in hand.

I’ve been talking to him about how we can improve our oral hygiene as a family (I don’t want any more cavities either!) so more happy dentists will be in our future.
