Effortless Tips to Make Your Household More Green This Summer

Everyone knows that they need to be doing more for the planet. It’s become evident that the more extreme weather is here to stay, with hotter, dryer summers and more intense bursts of extreme weather events. You can see it everywhere, from people buying fans for their homes to rethinking what they should be planting in their gardens. It’s more important than ever to look for ways to be more green and make more environmentally responsible choices.

However, the fact is that a lot of people don’t have a huge amount of money to work with. Energy bills have skyrocketed over the last few months, and there have been a lot of stories about families needing to decide whether to heat their homes or buy food. These may be the extremes, but they certainly paint a compelling picture. The good news is that making greener choices doesn’t have to break the bank.

Remember The Little Things Can Have a Huge Impact on the Environment

One of the easiest ways to be more green is by remembering the simple key steps. They’ll save you money on your energy bills too.

For example, turn your computer off properly when you’re finished with it for the day. Ensure you’re flicking those light switches off when you leave the room, just like your parents used to shout at you about!

Rethink your heating schedule as the days start getting warmer. It’s easy to forget and not notice, so double-check them now.

These are all tips you’ll need to keep your energy bills down, but they’re also great steps to keeping your carbon footprint nice and low.

Recycle Properly

Most people reading this will be part of the generation that grew up hearing a lot about how important recycling is. You’ll be separating your rubbish into recyclables and everything else and rinsing out those cans and plastics before you put them in. However, there’s always a lot more that you can be doing with your recycling, and all it takes is taking an extra moment to think about it.

For example, try to avoid buying products with excess plastic. Think about reusing paper envelopes and parcels instead of throwing them away. Remember that jars and yogurt containers can find a new purpose around the house.

And give electronic items you no longer use to a charity shop instead of throwing them away. They should go to an electric recycling center if they are truly beyond repair.

Look At Electric Cars

Your car will always be one of the main contributors to your carbon footprint. You may already be taking many steps necessary to reduce your emissions, such as avoiding taking your car for short trips and carpooling where possible. However, the fact is that most cars contribute to the environmental issues that everyone faces.

That’s why an electric car may be the right choice for you. You may be wondering how an electric car can feature in a budget-related list, but they are more affordable now than ever.

It’s also worth noting that you can lease an electric car instead of buying it outright. There are a lot of misconceptions about electric cars, including how long they can drive without a charge and how long they take to charge.

You can learn more about managing your electric car charging and much more at LV Electrix. From leases to insurance, they’ve got everything you need to go electric in one place.

Be More Green By Upgrading Your Appliances

Speaking of making upgrades, you could consider swapping out your old kitchen and home appliances for more recent models. The cost of buying new machines may put you off, but think about the impact that your old models are having on your energy bills.

One of the reasons why your bills may be so expensive is that your old dryer, for example, is not as good at doing its job as it used to be. If it needs more cycles to get your clothes properly dry, then you could actually save money by switching to a newer, more energy-efficient model.

Eat Less Meat

Finally, it’s worth mentioning your household’s diet. Eating meat is certainly getting more expensive these days, as anyone who’s made a trip to the supermarket recently will tell you. It’s also not great for the planet.

The environmental impact of animal farming has been a major contributing factor to global warming over the decades. While there will always be some questions about the best alternative, you can start by cutting down on the amount of meat you eat. Think about swapping out one or two meals a week if you’re not ready to go full veggie.
