Lately we have become big fans of using Google Maps as a GPS. Especially in my husband's car where there is no GPS.
In my car I have one of those GPS's that you mount to your window. My favorite feature of that GPS is the speedometer. My husband would call me lazy but I would much rather glance at it for my speed than looking at my dashboard. Probably because I like the digital display of it as opposed to a dial where I have to think about how many miles is that dash mark. Maybe my husband's right! It happens on occasion.
My window mounted GPS just isn't as easy to use as the Google Maps GPS. I can search way faster for something on my phone and it's not so temperamental. My window mounted GPS often won't find what I am looking for unless I already know the address. It's a pain!
Since we've been using the Google Maps GPS A LOT we've noticed it can be difficult to look at your phone and drive. Shocker, right!? AND a big no no! Fumbling around with it on my knee or near the gear stick probably isn't the best idea. Nor does it promote safe driving. That's why I love my Olixar OmniHolder Universal In-Car Mount ($11)! It puts my phone where it should be for viewing a GPS – on the windshield (it also comes with a stickable disc that is used to mount the phone holder to your dashboard if you wish)!
Worried that your bulky phone case won't allow your phone to fit in this mount? I hate when I buy something only to release my phone is too fat for it because of the case I have it in. No need to worry with this mount. I have an iPhone 5 with an OtterBox and it fit my phone just fine (although a tight fit) thanks to its extending arm. The arm is spring loaded so it will pop back at you when you remove your phone. I don't think this mount would fit a phone bigger than mine though. It's a tight squeeze but I know my phone is well protected with the padding the mount has.
Overall, this is a great mount. Great for anyone that uses their phone like a GPS to go across town or even a long family road trip. Or those that just want their phone mounted because they use it as a MP3 player. Would recommend!
