Crucial Do and Don’ts For Perfect Play Times

For little ones, playtime can be the best time of their day. It is where they get to be imaginative, be entertained, mix with their friends, and generally have a lot of fun! But how is it for moms? Well, they often look forward to it as a chance to have a bit of a break, although, it can be a bit of a headache organizing the perfect playtime!

You want it to be unstructured but not too chaotic! Independent, but social as well. There really are a lot of lot factors to consider. But don't stress, just read on for some crucial advice that will help you and your kids achieve the perfect playtime. Or as close to it as possible, anyway!

The Social Aspect

Another important factor of playtime is being social. It is important for all children to mix with their peers. As this helps to socialize them and encourages skills such as sharing, and cooperation.

It is equally important for kids to have some quiet time alone on occasion, as well. This is because it fosters independence and self-reliance. How much of each sort of time your kid gets, will depend on your circumstances. Such as whether you are a stay at home mom, or whether your little ones go to nursery in the day? The main thing is to just try and get some sort of balance, so they get to practice in both sets of skills.

Make Sure Playtime Has Some Structure

Now, too much structure is to be avoided at playtime because you don't want to crush your kid's creativity. But at the same time, children often get more out of activities, as well as behave a lot better, when they are given a structure to work within.

That means you need to be clear and consistent on what it is you expect from them. For example, tell your children how long a session they have to play in before they need to do something else. Also give them 15, 10 and five-minute warnings before they have to stop. So they can get themselves ready for the transition.

You also need to show them whereabouts they are expected to play, and where they cannot go. As well as the things that they can play with. For example, get them to choose from a particular group of toys, art supplies or pieces of technology.

Keep Things Interesting

Talking of toys and art supplies, a child’s playtime is partly dependent on the resources that you provide for them. That is why it is important to get a good balance between toys, art and craft materials, educational items, and technology. Rotate each category, so they don't become bored with them too quickly. This also means you will get more use out of each item.

It is also a great idea to introduce a new toy, book, or activity regularly, to stop them getting bored. You can think ahead and have a stash of activities squirreled away somewhere. Then you can produce one when you can see them getting a little restless.

Or use sites like Amazon for your supplies, you can usually get deals on new Prime memberships. This means you can get your items delivered the next day. Which is perfect if you have a house full of kids to entertain and they are running out of things to do!
