When people think of Texas rain isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Most people think of hot and dry, but that isn’t always the case. During late spring and early fall, the rain can flat POUR down. Like cats and dogs. In fact, it can rain so much that there is often floods that close roads, businesses, and schools. It’s typically good for us as a whole because the aquifer is usually down, but it causes other annoying, itchy problems – FLEAS!
Heavy rains and humid Texas temperatures are the perfect recipe for fleas (and ticks). While some people might think a lot of rain will wash fleas away and drown them this isn’t the case. Fleas can THRIVE in this kind of environment. I was unlucky enough to experience this first-hand last year.
Fleas are tiny, annoying creatures that are pretty hard to see, especially if you are wearing a fur coat like a dog. They get into bedding, carpet, and anywhere they can squeeze their tiny selves into.
We first noticed we had a problem when these little guys started jumping up on our legs and biting us INDOORS. We knew right away that the dogs were the culprits who brought these fun creatures inside. Sure, enough we checked them and they had fleas.
When you have fleas you want to get rid them and get rid of them FAST. They are quick, annoying, and multiply worse than rabbits. One of the best ways to protect your family and dog from fleas is to be proactive. You want to nip these guys in the butt before it becomes an itchy, painful nightmare.
Start by making sure your dogs are wearing a water-resistant flea collar like Adams™ Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs & Puppies. This is a super easy and affordable solution that all dog owners should take advantage of. Just this simple step alone can prevent you from suffering from a flea outbreak like I had.
Adams Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs & Puppies protects your pooch from fleas, ticks, AND even mosquitoes, saving you from dealing with those annoying creatures in the first place. Not many collars do that! Plus, you don’t have to remember to apply monthly applications – these amazing collars give your dog 6 full months of protection! Wait, no, 12 months – it’s a two pack!!
That means 6 months of not having to go to a vet for flea treatments or because your dog got fleas and is allergic. Yes, we found out the hard way! One of our dogs is apparently allergic to fleas. He looked absolutely dreadful, losing hair from biting and had terrible rashes EVERYWHERE. At one point the vet even had to put a cone on him to prevent him from biting himself. It was that bad!
Thankfully, the new Adams Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs & Puppies can be found at your local WalMart or on WalMart.com. Somewhere most of us are anyway. Plus $19.99 – 24.99 for 2 collar pack is WAY cheaper than a vet visit. If you visit http://bricks.coupons.com/Bstart.asp?o=131587&c=HU&p=7v1oBWTX for more detail and a money-saving coupon (available for a limited time). Cha-ching! Learn from my mistakes and save a trip and the cost of a vet visit today!
In celebration of the new collar, Adams PetCare is conducting a contest where pet owners can win $1,000 in prizes by submitting their dog’s selfie. Top honors will go to entries that capture the pride a dog feels when pest-free. No purchase necessary. See website for details.

I do rescue & always have a houseful of cats & dogs. My animals(not rescue or fosters)get a topical. I like Revolution because it also protects from heartworm. I would LOVE to see a pet food developed that repels fleas & ticks naturally. Until then I use flea combs like crazy & topical if needed. Btw, I have an indoor cat that I comb 2-3 times a week with the flea comb & almost always get a couple fleas + flea dirt.
A flea repellent pet food would be awesome!! I hope someone is currently working on that one lol.
I myself try to you all natural remedies for fleas as most other products cause issues with my allergies at time. They are cheaper and safer to the environment. Lots of them work just as good as store bought ones.
What kind of natural flea remedies do you try? I’m always looking for more ideas for my pets.
We don’t own any dogs at the moment but it’s important that they are well protected during this season. This collar makes everything easier for dog owners!
Yes, you are so right. It makes it MUCH nicer when you can use one thing to fix all of it instead of one per issue.
We have two dogs and it’s really nice to be able to protect them from fleas. I think that flea collar will definitely help. I’ve read a lot of good reviews about it from fellow bloggers!
Yes, it’s actually quite a handy collar. The best part is that it helps with other pesky varmints as well!
This is always a huge stressor for me! I am always worried my dog will get fleas. We have a big house and it would be awful if they got in.
Oh yes, it doesn’t take much for fleas to get out of hand. If you have a big house, it’s even worse.
Such a great alternative to the ingested options for pups out there. I saw a commercial out there the other day for these flea medicines with the weirdest side effects!
I don’t like giving my pets anything that’s unnecessary. It’s crazy to give a dog something with side effects just for fleas!
These are great tips for families with dogs. We have a siberian husky and have never had any problems with fleas.
If you stay on top of them, they don’t become a problem. Glad you’ve never had any issues!
Oh these tips are great! Dogs are really amazing and they will protect you too.
Dogs are a little ray of sunshine on a daily basis. Yes, protection is a plus too!
I love that dog selfie and the contest around pet selfies. These collars sounds like a great way to perfect your pet during the hotter months. I really like that they are water proof.
It’s about impossible to keep my dogs out of the water or mostly dry in the summer. So, the waterproof aspect is at the top of my favorites list, for sure.
Oh these are great tips! You definitely never know when you pet can get infested. It is better to be proactive.
Yes, I agree with this fully. If you stay ahead, they will never become a major issue.
Yes, this is a huge issue in the midwest as well as ticks. The ticks are actually worse than the fleas. We used to have a dog and the ticks would jump from the dog to my kiddos!
I have a friend who lives in Missouri and she was telling me this! I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to deal with them like that!
We have fleas bad here in Florida as well. The Adams Flea collar has worked great for my fur baby too! I love that I don’t have to remember something once a month lol
Isn’t that the truth?! It’s hard enough to keep up with all the other monthly things! ha!
Although I dont have a dog (I am a kitty mommy), I can imagine how much of a challenge it would be to keep your dog safe from icky fleas while they’re outdoors. Great suggestions, especially the collar that lasts for 6 months! wow!
Lasting for 6 months is the best part. It’s so hard to remember stuff on a monthly basis. Even if they’re not outside often, it can still be a pain because then they get in the house!
So important to keep our fur babies protected from ticks and fleas! This is going to be the worst season yet from what I hear on the news.
I don’t doubt it! They started earlier than expected for me!
Such cute photos haha! I’m so glad that our cats are not outdoor cats, one less thing to worry about. They’ve had fleas a couple of times and it’s just the worst! x
Keeping the animals indoors is so much nicer when it comes to flea season. I definitely agree that it’s the WORST when fleas start in.
We always have to take the dogs in for their flu shots or they don;t take them for boarding. Either way, it is good to keep them healthy and in tip top shape!
Yes, keeping them as healthy as possible will alleviate future issues.
Passing this on to my dad now! We don’t have dogs but he does and fleas are the worst! I’m not sure if the dog collar will be available here in Australia but will check it out.
You should let me know if you find it there! That would be helpful information for tohers, I’m sure!
you just reminded me that my fl.ea medication is due tomorrow. Those meds are so expensive so I really think I will try these collars soon
Well, I’m glad I could help remind you but I’m also glad I could help with an alternative option! You only have to worry every 6 months with this collar!
I don’t have a dog but I have a lot of family and friends that own dogs so I’ll definitely share this with them!!
Thank you for sharing and thanks for stopping by!
It’s awful when they get fleas. It’s best to take steps to prevent it. These are awesome tips to help save your dog and your sanity!
Yes! If fleas get one little step ahead of you it can be awful to deal with. I would rather be ahead of them! ha!
Oh fleas are the worst! Growing up on a farm they were a constant issue. It’s a challenge finding a good way to protect your pets without the awful smell.
You’re so right about that one. The country seems to harbor the worst cases of fleas and ticks but sometimes a bad smell is necessary.
