May was a tough month for our family. Right after Mother’s Day, my husband’s aunt suffered a brain aneurysm and several seizures. She went through surgeries, times of paralysis, and setbacks but thankfully made it through.
She was told all of this happened because of her smoking addiction. It just goes to show that terrible things can happen to good people. It doesn’t matter who you are. His aunt is the sweetest person in the world. Someone who most definitely didn’t deserve this.
We all know smoking is bad for our health but unfortunately, many people become addicted. Lung cancer and smoking is spoken about quite often but the things his aunt suffered were a surprise to us. She was told that if she smoked again she would die. This resonated very hard with my mother in law.
You see, she too has smoked all of her life and this awful thing that happened; happened to her dear friend. It scared her. It scared her so much that in the midst of it all she quit smoking cold turkey.
Most smokers can’t quit on a drop of a hat like she did. They need to take one day at a time, building up to the big win. There are several things smokers can do to help them quit. To help keep my mother in law on the right path, I decided to put together a little care package and mail it to her. She’s doing great but some days can be harder than others. I know she will win and quit smoking for good with her friends and family’s support!
Quit Smoking Care Package
Stopping an addiction like smoking is hard. Having your friends and family support the non-smoking you is really important. If you know someone who is cutting ties with cigarettes, consider sending them a care package help them quit and let them know you are in their corner.
Any good “Quit Smoking” gift starts with a reliable smoking cessation product like the Nicorette® Lozenges I picked up at CVS Pharmacy.
Having something that relieves your cravings is a must, that way you can stay focused and win. I love that they are convenient and can easily be used in any social situation that arises.
How To Use Nicorette® Lozenges
These directions can also be found on the Nicorette® website:
- Available in 2 strengths: 2mg and 4mg
- If you smoke your first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking up, use 4 mg Nicorette® Lozenge
- If you smoke your first cigarette more than 30 minutes after waking up, use 2 mg Nicorette® Lozenge
- To improve your chances of quitting, use at least 9 lozenges per day for the first 6 weeks. Do not use more than 5 lozenges in 6 hours or 20 lozenges per day.
- GSK Consumer Healthcare, the makers of Nicorette® and NicoDerm® CQ®, want to help smokers empower a smoke-free life.
That’s why for every box of Nicorette® or NicoDerm® CQ® purchased at CVS Pharmacy in November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, GSK Consumer Healthcare will donate $1 to the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE (up to $100,000). * Offer valid 10/29/17 – 12/2/17. What a great partnership!

Oh, I love it! This is really good! Thanks for sharing!
Do you smoke?
Such an awful addiction. I smoked for many years and have been smoke free for 9 1/2 years.
That’s amazing! Glad to hear that you conquered it!
My son smokes even though he knows the risks involved. Luckily, I don’t have anyone in the family that has any addictions that are worse than this one. Thank you for sharing–this is a great idea!
Hopefully he realizes it’s important before it’s too late. Glad to hear there’s nothing more serious beyond that!
I don’t currently have anyone directly in my life that suffers from a smoking or other addiction (although now that I think about it, I may be addicted to entering sweeps!). I do have two nephews who I am not close to that are addicted to drugs and also smoke. Addictive personalities maybe?
That’s wonderful that everyone close to you is free from addiction. It’s not often you hear that!
If sugar is an addiction then I certainly have that. My mother was addicted to alcohol when I was a kid. She gave it up when I was in middle school.
Glad to hear your mother gave up alcohol! I think there are quite a few folks who love their sweets. 😉
I smoked for many years. Nine years ago I suffered from a brain aneurism(the very same day our 1st grandson was born) and was in a coma for several weeks. I was lucky to have survived. That day was the last time I smoked. Although it has been nine years I still have days where I would love to have a cigarette. Life is grand!!!
Glad to hear that your health is much better! Sometimes it takes major events to show us we need to make a change. What a way to remember a birth!
I would like it if someone cared enough about me to give me one of these. :/ I think it is a wonderful idea. When I decide to do something I have to get used to the idea. I am going to fail at least once. But I dont give up. Sometimes a push like this is what you need.
Failing is in the books and there’s room for that. Can’t always get it perfect but as long as you’re working through it, those mistakes will fade away.
It is tough.. I know first hand. It will be one month this Sunday since I had a cigarette. Me and my fiance’ both quit cold turkey and I def have had my mood swings.
Good for you!! It’s a super hard thing to work through but your body will thank you long term. Congrats on one month!
The instructions on the Kindz giveaway say to tell what my favorite fall craft is — on this blog. It doesn’t seem to fit. Oh well… Every Fall, my favorite craft is crocheting a new cap for my granddaughter. Caps and scarves are fun to make for the grandchildren because they outgrow and lose things easily. And I get to practice new stitches or try new yarns. I have severe anxiety and crocheting is soothing and relaxing. I have just started loom knitting, so am starting a new Fall crafting tradition… loom knitting dishcloths for my daughter 🙂 First one is done, as are two “Messy Bun Caps” for my granddaughter so most of her head is covered while her long, red ponytail hangs freely out of the hole at the top!
I have a fall crafting post however, here is fine! That sounds like a super cute tradition you have.
I am so glad that my family does not need this. My husband quit smoking before our little girl was born, and I am so proud of him for quitting before she came along.
You have to start somewhere! Little bit by little bit if that’s what it takes. 🙂
These are nice thoughtful ideas for smokers. At least they could start to minimize smoking until they finally quit.
This is very true! A little support never hurt anything, only helps!
This is a great idea. I would put one together for my neice if she wanted to quit.
What a wonderful idea! I would talk to her and see if she had thought about it. If she says yes, then surprise her with it to show your support.
I’m not sure if this care package would work but I think refocusing the energy to things that better you could help quit
I think what the package does more than anything is show support in making a healthy decision. I think that’s where the “working” part lies. 🙂
I actually don’t know anyone who smokes. I think the rules and the anti smoking campaigns are working because less and less people are do it, which is a good thing. Your idea of a care package is so lovely!
I know a ton of people who smoke, sadly. However, I think you’re right except I think the cost plays a big part too.
I don’t really have smokers around me, but I’m pretty sure the package is useful to the people out threre.
That’s surprising! So many people smoke these days but that definitely means you’re blessed then!
This is nice. Could really help a lot of people out.
I think it could as well! thank you for the compliment!
This is great info for those who wants to quit smoking. It sounds like a helpful tips.
I’m glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for stopping by!
I LOVE this idea! I smoked for many years and quit twice. The second time was so hard. This care package would have been so helpful! Great idea!
Glad to hear that it would have helped you! It’s always nice hearing from those who have been through it!
Oh, this is very new to me! Its a great idea for the smokers to quit cigs! hope this will help a lot of people around us
I sure hope it helps a lot of people as well!
I love this gift idea! I know a few smokers whom could greatly benefit from this package. It could really be the best gift to give the smoker who you love this year, thanks for sharing this great idea.
I think it would be a great gift too. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by!
I just love your whole idea of the quit smoking care package. It shows you put a lot of thought into it and I am sure that was greatly appreciated. I agree it is hard to just stop but with your care package, I am sure you are helping her cope with it.
It’s very difficult for people when they’re trying to quit smoking. Showing them support is the best thing we could do!
If a person dies not have the willpower to stick to the decision of quitting smoking, this care package though great and a very nice idea, may not work. But a good start to quitting.
I think showing support in general is what can make the difference. They don’t have to feel alone in it. 🙂
