Let’s face it, most kids don’t count down for the first day of school. Summer, yes! Back to school, most likely not.
However, there are plenty of things that should put a smile on your kids’ faces even if the idea of classrooms and homework doesn’t. Here are five things that will have your kids smiling ear to ear.
Seeing Friends Everyday
We all know summer is something kids look forward to all year long. Why? Because there’s no school, no homework, no teachers breathing down your neck.
Summer is the time for relaxing and doing what you want to do (within reason—you’re a kid after all). There’s no pressure to meet deadlines or memorizing facts until your head explodes.
However, kids often forget that unless your friends live next door you probably won’t be seeing them much during the summer. Most parents work, even if it’s at home, they can’t have extra kids running around while they attempt to concentrate. It just won’t work.
But, back to school time means you’ll once again get to see your friends every day. Even if you don’t have a class with them there’s before and after school and lunchtime to mingle.
Boredom Be Gone
While summer only lasts at max three months, it never fails that at some point you’ll hear the words “I’m bored” coming from your child’s mouth. Kids are used to having a schedule and a person dictating every single moment of their day.
When left to their own devices, they get bored — quick.
While they might not like everything they do in school, they can’t say they’re bored, right?
Get Away from Parents
Children and teens love their parents (we hope), but let’s face it, we are always telling them what to do. This is compounded by the day in day out of summer.
By the end of it all, they are pretty sick of us and would much rather have an authority figure like a teacher delegating their day.
Getting Out of the House
Summertime typically means spending a lot of time inside of your house. Yes, an occasional vacation or weekend getaway may be thrown in there, but the majority of the time you are homebound.
Think about the typical school day, my son is gone 8+ hours if you count to and from. When school is not in session those hours are now spent at home adding to their boredom.
So while school might not be all that fun, at least you are out of the house, having different interactions.
One Year Closer to Graduating
Every first day of school means you are one day closer to the last day. Now, I know that’s something most teenagers can smile about!
Little do they know adulthood isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, but that’s something they need to discover on their own.
And, if Those Don’t Work They Can Always Wear SMILE! SOX™
Is your kid still not smiling? No problem! If they can’t crack a smile on their face, buy them SMILE! SOX™ .
What is SMILE! SOX™?
SMILE! SOX™ was created with the idea that “Nothing You Wear Is More Important Than Your SMILE!”. They believe we should express joy, inspire happiness, and just plain have fun whenever we can.
A simple way to do this is with fun, colorful socks.
Maybe your child is nervous about going back to school or experiencing it for the first time. Back to school time is challenging for a lot of kids and they just can’t muster a smile.
Now they can put their best foot forward with ease…
Makes Expressing Yourself Easy
But now with SMILE! SOX™ , your child can express exactly how they may be feeling even if it’s a frowny face. Or, even better they can wear two different expressions — one on each foot!
However, I know your kids will be smiling soon because of these socks.
They come in 6 fun expressions:
- SMILEY! is always feelin’ happy! Let’s get the day started and have some fun!
- JOLLY is full of happiness and delight! Come on, let’s go play!
- WINKY! is the side-kick when you’re feelin’ mischievous and playful!
- GRUMPY! Grrr! Not feeling it today – goin’ back to bed!
- GOOFY! Seriously? Let’s do something silly today! Who’s with me?
- HAPPY! is content as can be! Feelin’ good and full of positive energy.
To be honest, my first thought was that my 13-year-old son would snub his nose at these socks and not even try them on. If he thinks something will cause him to stand out he won’t wear it.
Super Soft Socks
Thankfully, both of my boys adored these socks! They’ve been wearing them every day around the house and keep commenting on how soft they are.
SMILE! SOX™ are made from almost entirely soft polyester with a smidge of spandex for stretch.
Wash and Wear Great
From a parents perspective, they wash great and aren’t too thin or thick. Honestly, they feel amazing on your feet and slide on really easy.
In the end, I know my almost 10-year-old son will wear these to school with no shame. He absolutely loves them and could care less about what anyone else says.
While his brother may only wear them at home, I at least know he likes them and secretly makes him smile which makes me smile. That’s a win in my book!
