smart phone with social media icons: Social Media Addiction Facts The Reality of Social Media and Family Life

Do you want to learn some social media addiction facts?

Family comes first! But unfortunately, not for many people. Some may argue that they give their time to family without realizing it's not quality time. Spending time with someone doesn't merely mean being physically present; you must be in the now.

Your mindfulness, attention, and listening to each other strengthen your bond. 4.62 billion people around the world are using social media; you could be one of them.

Is social media affecting your family life? Let's find out today.

Learn the facts about social media addiction and how it can affect you, your relationships, and your family!Click To Tweet

#1. You Prefer Spending Time On Social Media

Here are some social media addiction facts you should know. According to a recent study, the average person spends nearly two hours on social media every day. For many of us, it's the first thing we check when we wake up and the last thing we look at before bed.

Imagine coming back from the office. Your kids are back from school. Your spouse set the table, and you sat down to eat together. But, instead of talking to each other and asking about the day, everyone is busy on their smartphone.

It's sad! There must be a family rule that nobody can use a smartphone during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What do you expect to talk about later in life if you are not creating memories now?

It's high time to change your habits. Spend more time together.

#2. Your Kids Prefer Talking to Friends On Social Media

You learn about your kids excelling in a particular test from another parent. You got to know their child is in the same school as your child. Being friends with your kid on social media, they know more about your child's life.

Did you know some social media addiction facts and stats state that a lot of parents aren't friends with their kids on social media?

It's vital to develop trust from the beginning. If you don't share a strong bond with your kids, they may not want to add you to the profile, let alone share anything.

So you must know who your kids are friends with on social media and what type of content they share with the world. Social media is powerful; one wrong move can affect everyone's life.

#3. Your Kids And You Don't Listen to Each Other

Are you ready for some more social media addiction facts? Check out this conversation between a young kid and a dad.

“Dad, is it okay if I make an account on Social Media?”

Yeah, sure! (Dad while looking on his phone)

“Dad, all my friends are on social media!”

Hmm (Dad scrolling the images on social media)

“So, can you sign up on my behalf?”

What?

“I just told you, I want to make an account on social media.”

No, you can't. You're too young.

“But, you said yes!”

No, I didn't.

Does this sound familiar? Many conversations go like this! Similarly, when your teenage kid uses the phone or plays a game, they may not realize what they are saying!

You have to be mentally present when talking to your children. You are a role model for your kids. They will follow your example, and you set a pattern. So, make sure you listen to what they say, and you must know what they are asking from you.

#4. You And Your Kids Compare Life with Others On Social Media

It's easy to compare life with others. Social Media appears like an open book, where you see what other people are up to. But there might be more going on behind closed doors than we know about. Why would you expect someone to show the negative moments?

Even if they do, it's hard to believe as there are drama and fake stories to get likes and reviews. Social media can affect your and your kids' mental health.

#5. Your Family Knows More About Celebrities Than You

It's sad to realize that you have no idea what your dad's favorite food is. You can guess, but you are not sure. There are social media profiles to remind you about birthdays.

Social media addiction facts indicate that most likely your family has no idea how you feel today, but they would know how a particular celebrity feels in their story on Instagram every day. The same goes for you. You may not know what your kid wants from you, but you know what a celebrity prefers for his birthday.

What Can You Do About The Social Media Addiction Facts?

Social media addiction is a real thing, and it’s affecting more people than you might think. In fact, according to one study, social media addiction facts state that about 5% of the population is affected. That may not seem like a lot, but when you consider the number of people who use social media platforms regularly, that percentage starts to add up quickly. And those numbers are only going to continue to grow as social media becomes increasingly ingrained in our lives.

So what do we do as parents? We try to find a balance. We unplug when we can, and we stay connected when it matters most.

It all comes down to family rules and what works best for you. Set boundaries and lead by example. Become the best family version. Develop a strong bond from an early age, be kind, and focus on the needs of others. Get started before it's too late!
