My family is very pro vitamins. Well, I guess I am. I am the one that makes sure everyone takes their daily vitamin. Lord, knows they'd eat candy and junk all day if it wasn't for me. I know what they really eat (Can we say picky?) and know they could definitely use the extra health benefits that vitamins provide.
The kids love their gummy vitamins (Heck, so do we!) so much I thought I'd try Colostrum Chewables. When I think of colostrum I think of newborn babies and breastfeeding. We've all heard how colostrum (the first milk that's produced) is packed with vitamins, antibodies, so much protein, and is just excellent for newborns.
It pumps up a newborns immune system as well as helps improves function of the digestive track. Smart doctors and scientists have now found a way to continue giving these great benefits to adults and children.
The makers of Symbiotics Wild Cherry Colostrum Plus Chewables say:
Your immune defense system gets depleted as you age. Colostrum Plus® adds back antibodies and immune factors for dual action in the bloodstream and also in the GI tract. It helps maintain a robust intestinal lining and promote healthy intestinal flora. Its growth factors enhance stamina and support normal re-growth of tissue and lean muscle after strenuous physical exercise.
Sounds like something we all could benefit from, right? They recommend you take two of these pills daily on an empty stomach. However, if you are really stressed (physically or environmentally) you can triple the amount. It's also great for kids. Schools are germ breeding centers and their little immune systems could use all the help they can get.
Unfortunately, my family and I could not take these pills on an empty stomach. We thought they tasted pretty bad. I couldn't even get my kids to swallow once they chewed up the pills. They are supposed to be wild cherry flavored (tastes nothing like cherry starbursts or anything similar) but it didn't taste that way to us. It was like chomping on vitamins. Yuck, to say the least.
However, I did still find a way to reap the benefits of Symbiotics Wild Cherry Colostrum Plus Chewables. I crushed them up and put them in batters. They worked great in my apple granola muffins and my peanut butter cookies.
The boys favorite though was mixing it in with frozen fruit from Swirlio Dessert Maker. Surprisingly you couldn't taste the pills! So while the boys were enjoying what they call “ice cream” they were also getting the extra bonus of a healthier immune system and digestive track. What mom can complain about that? Not this one.
Do you think it is worth the experience?
I do think the benefits out weight the not so good taste. After all a lot of healthy things don’t taste good.
