For my husband's 33rd birthday I decided to have my family over to celebrate. We usually never do such things for our birthdays. Usually we just go out to eat and call it a day. Other times we plan a trip or an event that month for our “birthday thing” but never a get together.
The kids on the other hand have fun themed parties that can be fun to plan. I thought having a semi themed party would be fun and something new for my husband. I asked him what he wanted to eat and based it off that. Taco Bar it was! He loves his tacos.
To start I had to have some sort of sign for the Taco Bar. I painted an old mirror that I was just going to give to Goodwill with chalkboard paint. Voila, instant chalkboard!
To make the chalkboard lettering I printed out “happy birthday”, covered the none printed side with chalk, taped the chalky side of the paper to the chalkboard, and then completely and firmly filled in “happy birthday” with a pencil. When you take off the piece of paper from the chalkboard the lettering is left. Pretty cool, although all that penciling hurt my hand.
On to the food. You can do SO much with a Taco Bar. I filled crock pots with beans, rice, shredded chicken, and seasoned ground beef. For toppings I filled little bowls with tomatoes, sour cream, green onions, salsa, queso, black olives, jalapeños, and guacamole. I of course also had lettuce, tortillas, and chips. You can definetly have something for everyone with a Taco Bar.
For a little something extra I covered a long folding table with brown paper and labeled all of the food. All the guests thought this was so clever and looked amazing.
Throughout the party we used party supplies from Smarty Had A Party. The toppings were placed in Baroque Disposable Bowls. The Baroque Disposable Salad and Dinner Plates were used for food as well as the Radiance Silver-Look Disposable Flatware Set. The dessert table was decorated with the Silver Pintuck Runner and the Red Polyester Napkins.
Let me tell you, Smarty Had A Party makes GREAT supplies. The bowls and plates were a white with silver trim plastic but super fancy plastic. They were extremely durable and very pleasing to the eye with a modern flare. Same goes with the silverware and Reflections Silver Rim Disposable Wine Glasses – very eye pleasing but tossable. Such a huge plus!
You can use Smarty Had A Party tableware without being ashamed at all and then toss them to save on clean up. After preparing for the party and then having it, the last thing you want to do at the end of the night is dishes.
I love that all of their supplies are VERY affordable. Heck, you can even throw out the nice quality, diamond detailed cloth table runner if you wish. It was less than $3 bucks! I'm keeping it though. It's that nice.
I also loved that thrown in with my Smarty Had A Party Elegant Party Tablescape were candy Smarties. Such a cute, clever touch.
I tied twine around the Red Polyester Napkins to go with the overall look.
To end the night, we had homemade orange creamsicle ice cream in Reflections Silver Rim Disposable Wine Glasses. They looked so elegant AND yummy.
I would highly recommend Smarty Had A Party for all your party needs. They make quality products that are sure to dazzle your guests while saving you on clean up. LOVE them!
This is such a good idea. I think this would be perfect for when we have friends over and want something a little less formal. Everyone can eat what they want and how they want it. Just FYI, if you fancy coming over, I’m running a link up and would love for you to join in if you wish to. The kitchenware from Smarty Had A Party is lovely too (absolutely love that name – genius whoever came up with that!).
