This sensitive skin post was created in partnership with Pure by Rachelle Parker. I was not financially compensated for this post but did receive a sample for review purposes. As always, all opinions are entirely my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support me!

taming sensitive skin

Healthy skin is something that should be attainable for everyone. After all, the skin is considered the body’s largest organ. While its primary job is to protect the body from external threats like bacteria and UV radiation, it also regulates body temperature. It allows us to feel sensations like hot or cold.

Considering how important the skin is to the quality of life, it makes sense to ensure it remains in good condition. However, that isn’t always easy.

Skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis make healthy skin seem like a near-impossible goal. Fortunately, there are still ways to maintain that youthful glow, all while soothing your sensitive skin.

The Issue with Sensitive Skin

While having sensitive skin isn’t something experienced by everyone, it still is an issue experienced by many. While sensitive skin is merely one of many possible symptoms for a range of disorders, allergens, and irritants, it tends to be the most commonly experienced symptom across many skin ailments.

Disorders like dermatitis and eczema are the atypical causes of sensitivity, but even acne can cause the skin to overreact to sensation. These ailments not only make it difficult to enjoy daily activities, but they can also affect the overall quality of life.

Social stigmas associated with visible signs of these disorders can be unbearable, and the daily treatments for them can become unmanageable.

Taming Sensitive Skin Naturally

Although a few of the most common ways to deal with sensitive skin are through prescription-based remedies, there are alternative solutions that work just as well. These alternative remedies are often plant-based and for a good reason.

Many plants contain unique compounds that can be used for medicinal purposes. A majority of pharmaceutical drugs are based on compounds found in plants, and some are even developed by isolating and extracting these compounds.

However, there's no need to turn to pharmaceutical derived plant compounds as all you might need is their oil. These essential oils are extracted and distilled to retrieve their exceptional qualities in liquid form for uses other than ingestion.

Fortunately, there's no need to ingest these oils as their compounds work wonders when absorbed through the skin.

Chamomile

While chamomile does wonders as a tea, it’s also beneficial for the skin as an essential oil. Chamomile has been used throughout the ages, mostly for its properties as a sedative, but it also helps to ease skin irritation and inflammation.

It also contains antimicrobial properties, which can help to keep wounds from getting infected.

And if you’re wondering about its known properties of relaxation, you’d be surprised to see that they work in the essential oil form as well. Bio-active compounds found in chamomile like chamazulene is known for causing relaxation and may be present in essential oil form depending on the distillation process.

However, with or without the ability to cause relaxation, chamomile essential oil is still perfect for soothing sensitive skin.

Lavender

Lavender has made a big name for itself. It’s used in everything from soaps to lotions, and even cleaning products. It’s highly prized for its relaxing scent and is mostly used as an essential oil for its ability to stimulate a calming state of mind.

However, relaxation isn’t the only thing lavender is responsible for doing. Lavender essential oil can be used for skin ailments like acne as it helps to keep the pores clean and free of unhelpful microbes like bacteria.

It can also help to reduce inflammation and itching associated with conditions like psoriasis and eczema. With these wonderful properties, it only makes sense that lavender is well suited for taming sensitive skin.
