Today was an unexpected snow day. The forecast yesterday did call for 1-2 inches of snow over night but I totally didn't expect that to hinder school today. Did you have to break out the snow blower or shovel where you are?
There are plenty of indoor winter activities I could do with my kids but good snow doesn't come around here very often. With my original plans for the day taking a slight turn I decided to go play out in the snow with my boys for a bit.
I had seen online where people did snow paintings with their kids and I thought how fun!
I decided to repurpose a few household items – spray bottles. You know when you have two of the same type of product and they both just have a little bit of liquid left? Well, I combined the liquids, cleaned the bottle out, and filled with my dyed water.
We used Tupperware containers and pots to make snow castles and sprayed them with the colored water.
Of course, when it was time to go in the boys just had to “crush the castles”. Beautiful colored snow flew everywhere. It was a pretty sight.
I also made a target in the snow using the colored water. Then from a distance they tried to hit the target. This was a bit hard as the snow didn't want to turn into a hard ball well. They had fun trying though!
What a great activity for children of all ages. We never get snow where I am and this year hardly any rain but this would be a great winter time activity followed with some yummy hot chocolate. 🙂
Ah yes, everything is better with hot chocolate when it is cold 🙂
I always liked snow days as well. I never got this many though and I live in the same county as my son goes to school in. Guess the weather is just worse than it used to be.
They were out of school all week with snow days. It was crazy. We are moving to Texas in the summer so I guess he's getting in the snow while he can 🙂
Now this looks like a lot of fun
It is lots of fun! Fun but cold. Burrr!
This sounds like so much fun! Too bad it doesn't snow where I live in Arizona. I'm sure the kids had a ton of fun and weren't missing school when you decided to do this one. Thanks for sharing this one with us at Countdown in Style too!
Sounds like fun! I miss snow days (well, being able to go to snow on particular days, LOL). Thank you for linking up with Countdown in Style!
