Top Skincare Tips to Help with Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes facial redness and flushing. Its symptoms include eye irritation, thickened skin, and acne-like bumps. The National Rosacea Society denotes that over 16 million Americans have this condition. While scientists have not yet agreed on what causes it, its treatments have improved over the years.

In addition to affecting the quality of life, using makeup, creams and cleansers can irritate your skin if you have this condition. Check out proven and valuable skincare tips that can efficiently treat the disease below.

Even if you’re already treating your rosacea, the right skin care can make a noticeable difference. Here are some of our best tips!Click To Tweet

BEST ROSACEA SKIN CARE REGIMEN

Use Fragrance-Free Skin Products

If you have rosacea, most cosmetics and skin care products may irritate your skin.

Although moisturizing, sun protection, and gentle cleansing come in handy in decreasing the irritation associated with rosacea. It would be wise of you to pick your makeup and skincare products carefully.

As you shop for these items, it’s sensible that you go through the list of integrated ingredients. Dermatologists recommend people avoid buying skin products that contain some of these ingredients:

  • Camphor
  • Alcohol
  • Lactic acid
  • Fragrance
  • Menthol
  • Urea
  • Sodium laurel sulfate

Avoid Products that Dries the Skin

Evaluate the products you use and watch out for any ingredient which may dry out the skin.

Instead of using hot water when bathing, use warm because this is less likely to dry the skin. Keep in mind that heat is a common irritation if you have rosacea.

Doctors recommend people to use mineral-based skin products because they don't have preservatives and other additives that may irritate the skin.

Practice Sun Safety

Research shows that sun exposure is the leading cause of rosacea flare-ups. So, when going out in the sun, it's essential to practice sun safety by applying sunscreen regularly, staying in the shade, or even putting on a wide-brimmed hat.

Chemical-based sunscreens irritate. Thus, it would help if you opted for sunscreens that contain physical blockers, such as titanium or zinc oxide.

In general, pick hypoallergenic and fragrance-free sunscreens, and remember to apply them often and generously.

Avoid Using Excessive Skin Care Products

Although most women prefer to use skincare products to conceal rosacea's symptoms, using excess makeup irritates the skin. You should, thus, only use mineral-based and chemical-free products. Also, if you use foundations, choose the pressed-powder ones instead of the liquid ones. Liquid foundations will clog up the skin pores, which worsens the condition.

Use the Best Over the Counter Face Cream for Rosacea

Moisturizer is a valuable skincare product for treating this condition. It would help if you considered using moisturizer often because it creates a block that locks out the irritants, which reduces rosacea symptoms.

Picking the wrong product can worsen skin redness. Thus, opt for a fragrance-free, oil-free, and hypoallergenic moisturizer.

Take Care of the Entire Skin

While rosacea primarily affects the face, you should take care of the entire skin.

Individuals who suffer from this condition may have sensitive skin on other body parts. Therefore, they need to use similar neutral and gentle skincare products.

Use Gentle Cleansers

The type of cleanser you use has significant effects on this skin condition. You should avoid harsh astringents and cleansers to prevent causing a flare-up.

It would be best to stop using any product containing salicylic acid or retinoids and adhere to the same guidelines you use when buying a moisturizer.

Use Gentle Touch

You have to be gentle when applying makeup or creams to the skin because scrubbing or rubbing the skin may cause irritation and redness. Some sponges and washcloths may irritate the skin as well.

So, skip face exfoliation and instead exfoliate the rest of your body with a silicone body scrubber. After washing, carefully dry the skin with a soft cotton towel.

Wrapping Up

In conclusion, ensure the tips mentioned above are part and parcel of your skincare routine to prevent worsening the condition of your rosacea-prone skin.

If you have issues finding makeup and skincare products that do not affect your skin, it’s advisable to contact a dermatologist for professional assistance.
