When I was in 6th or 7th grade we did a french fry taste test from some fast food restaurants in the area. I don't really remember what the premise was but I remember Rally's french fries won hands down. They are still probably my favorite fries to this day. Sadly, there are no Rally's where I live now. The closest is it's sister store Checker's around three hours away. I love them but not that much.
I decided to take a shot and make some at home since I have this great French Fry Potato Cutter. This fry cutter cuts potatoes into perfect sized fries (two sizes). You simply choose what size fries you want and put in the corresponding stainless steel grate. Suction the device to the counter. Place in a medium sized potato (or other hard veggie) and press the lever to push it through the grate. Super easy and it works great!
I am a small woman that doesn't work out unless you count walking around the block and I was able to press the lever down and up with no problems. You just have to make sure everything is properly secure in place. I found that using potatoes from those 3 or 5 pound bags work great.
As for the french fries, I found a recipe online for the batter. Personally, I don't think they taste like Rally's fries. Granted I haven't had them in a while. You be the judge!
I love Rally’s french fries. I always wondered what delicious seasoning they used. It’s super interesting to see that you used pancake mixes on the french fries, and I am sure it really helps the seasoning stick and obtain that crunchy coating.
It was an interesting try but didn’t turn out quite how I wanted it to. I say just by the Rally’s fries at the store lol.
I’ve never ate at a Rally’s but I have purchased the fries from the grocery. I will have to try this out and compare!
If you have ever had Checkers it’s the same thing as Rallys
I have never had these French fries but have heard of them often. Interesting recipe with the pancake batter and all. I prefer making my own French fries . This is one recipe I cant wait to make for the family. thanks for the recipe too.
To be honest, I wanted these to be better. I still prefer the real Rally’s fries lol.
I’ve never had Rally fries. Looked on their site and found: We couldn’t find any of our restaurants within 30 miles of 80232.
The good news is, you can still enjoy our Famous Seasoned Fries by visiting the grocery section of most Walmart stores.
