3 Ways to Prevent Allergies at Home

Your family's health is always a top priority. Unfortunately for many, health problems can be just as much of an issue indoors as outdoors. Children, adults, and the elderly can suffer from allergies in the home, which is concerning because most people spend a lot of time indoors.

Also, allergies are not only seasonal; many indoor allergies are persistent year-round.

Although pollen-induced allergic reactions appear seasonally, the home also harbors other allergens. These can include such things as dust mites, mold, household chemicals, pet dander, dried human skin cells, dust, and more.

Worry not! If you implement the following steps, you can keep your family's indoor allergies at bay.

Use an Air Purifier

One way to prevent allergies at home is to install an air purifier. There are whole home units or multiple units can be placed in living quarters, such as the living and bedrooms.

The bedroom is especially important, as we spend about one-third of our day sleeping there. The benefits of an air purifier can be overwhelmingly positive, making them an excellent tool for keeping your home's indoor air pure.

Air purifiers help to reduce asthma attacks by removing microscopic particles from the air. They also remove allergens such as dust, pet odors, skin cells, and pollen by cleaning indoor air, which is particularly important for the elderly and children.

Toddlers, for instance, spend a lot of time on the floor, which is precisely where a lot of allergens tend to accumulate.

When choosing an air purifier, it is recommended to select one with a HEPA filter.

Dehumidify Your Living Space

Dust mites, mold, and mildew are known allergy triggers and thrive in humid environments. To prevent the spread of these allergens, you should consider purchasing a dehumidifier for your home.

If you have children in the house, keep in mind that mold allergies can contribute to childhood asthma, and it's best to prevent them with the simple installation of a dehumidifier.

Not only does it reduce humidity levels in the home, but a dehumidifier can also reduce potential irritation to the lungs, which amounts to easier breathing and comfort.

Suppose you have poorly ventilated areas or black mold spots. In that case, you might consider installing a humidifier or two, which come in small and large capacities for living spaces of various sizes.

Perform an Air Duct Cleaning

HVAC companies recommend cleaning the air ducts of your home as part of routine maintenance.

The air in your home continually circulates through the ventilation system, where microscopic allergens such as dust, bacteria, and pollen accumulate, meaning you and your family end up breathing this contaminated air in turn.

There are definitely some steps you can take around your house to make allergies more bearable. Learn how! Click To Tweet

A professional cleaning utilizes powerful vacuums to remove debris in the ventilation system. Cleaner air means fewer allergens moving throughout the house and settling on surfaces.

Even though indoor air quality can be poor and can contribute to allergies, there are several actions you can take to prevent them from being a problem for you and your family.

The addition of an air purifier, a dehumidifier, and a routine duct cleaning will help to keep you and your family breathing easier and those pesky allergies away. Stay safe!
