What To Expect During Your First Trimester of Pregnancy

The first trimester of pregnancy is eventful and full of changes. For first-time parents, this can be both terrifying and thrilling.

Pregnancy education for families is important because parents never stop learning. Through classes related to birth and parenting as well as books and other educational materials, there is an endless supply of information out there for new parents to take in.

Here are a few things to expect during your first trimester of pregnancy.

There's a lot going on in there as your baby begins to develop. Here's more about what to expect in the first trimester!Click To Tweet

The first trimester of pregnancy symptoms

Most pregnant women report the most symptoms during their first trimester of pregnancy. Symptoms like weight gain, morning sickness, constipation, tender breasts, heartburn, and mood swings are all common and to be expected.

Your doctor will be able to help out with relief if needed.

However, there are a few symptoms to keep an eye out for. Heavy vaginal bleeding, a high fever, severe abdominal pain, painful urination, extreme thirst, and vision disturbances are all symptoms that warrant a call to your doctor.

1st trimester of pregnancy do's

Nine months may feel like a long time, but a lot needs to be done, especially within your first three months of pregnancy.

First and foremost, choosing your practitioner is an essential step. Depending on your needs, an OB-GYN, midwife, or family physician may be a good fit for you.

During your first visit to your doctor, you will likely undergo a variety of tests. Blood work, Pap smears, urine tests, and ultrasounds can all be expected throughout your pregnancy.

Your doctor will likely also recommend you begin taking prenatal vitamins. It is vital to get all the necessary nutrients for your baby's growth in addition to supporting your own health.

You may also consider genetic testing to screen for chromosomal abnormalities and other congenital defects.

In addition to taking vitamins and visiting your doctor, it is essential to take care of your body in other ways. Carving out time for fitness and healthy eating is critical to the health of you and your baby.

Taking the time to research foods to avoid and beneficial foods will make a massive difference in your wellbeing. Additionally, it is crucial to avoid substances like caffeine, alcohol, and drugs.

Finally, it is never too early to begin planning for your life with your household's newest member. Tasks like budgeting, making a list of names, purchasing new items, and decorating your baby's future nursery are all duties that may be easier to do in the earlier stages of your pregnancy.

Understanding first trimester milestones

Not only is it fun and exciting to track your baby's growth, but it is also important to understand what's going on inside your body. During these first 13 weeks, your baby will be hitting many milestones related to the formation of organs, bones, and muscles.

You can keep track of your baby's progress through apps, websites, and books. It is incredible to watch your baby grow from a single cell to the size of a peach in just three months.

While there is a lot to do and learn during the first few months of your pregnancy, it will go by quickly. Before you know it, you will have a new member of your family to take care of.
